“With an ankle op that requires several weeks of non weight bearing recovery looming it dawned on me (a short, overweight 73 year old) that I would not be capable of negotiating any steps using elbow crutches. This provoked intense internet searching for some sort of solution and, to my delight, up popped the iWalker 3.0 which appeared to be the ideal answer. However having a replacement knee joint I was concerned that my knee wouldn’t bend sufficiently and that the knee pad would be too uncomfortable. I am very happy to report that neither is the case. I was walking unaided around my kitchen within minutes of building the iWalker and have negotiated up and down (backwards) the stairs easily and safely. Once the fittings were adjusted to fit my leg it’s a simple procedure to strap the crutch on or take it off. A very happy customer.”
“I have had the iWalk 3 for about 3 weeks now. I have used it a few times a day every day. It is fantastic to be able to be standing upright with both hands free (unlike regular crutches) and to be eye level with other adults (unlike in the wheelchair). This has been a game chager in keeping up with a busy household over the christmas break.
The knee crutch was simple to assemble and to adjust for my size etc. It is super comfortable, even with my below-the-knee resin cast. There is foam cushion that I have been using and that works well.
Getting used to the walking is quite quick (a few minutes), and then it's just a case of practising getting up and down stairs etc.”
“First, the delivery was super quick - from order to arrival was under 12hrs
Second, the device is amazing! I am moving about getting more confident each day and able to do so much more than on traditional crutches.
It's expensive, and I hope not to be using it for more than a couple of months, but it's worth it.
Reccommned!”
“Crutches are great if your upper torso is like Chalrs Atlas and knee trolleys are great if you live in a two-dimensional world. For anything else, and especially stairs, there really is nothing else that gives you the mobility that the iwalk knee crutch does. With a bit of practice, you can carry a cup of tea and walk!”
“The iWALK 3.0 is a game changer. I broke my leg and required crutches for 6 weeks. I felt absolutely useless as I couldn’t carry anything whilst using crutches. I couldn’t even make my wife a cup of tea or take my plate to the kitchen after a meal.
The iWALK changed this. My hand are free so I could carry things and feel useful again.
I can’t recommend the iWALK 3.0 highly enough.”
“I have been using this for a few weeks now, following a broken ankle.
The setup instructions (3 short videos) are clear and comprehensive. The crutch is straightforward to use and very soon could walk hands-free on a level surface.
It sounds obvious but it is so much easier to move around using your leg muscles (on the iWALK) than your arm muscles, like normal crutches - both in terms of strength and dexterity.
In use, the iWALK has two substantial advantages to normal crutches. First is you can carry stuff, since your hands are free - unfortunately this includes being able to vacuum and do other household chores - with normal crutches, this is impossible.
The second major advantage is that going up and down stairs is easy - although coming down backwards is the easiest way - this is hard on normal crutches, especially when you are not allowed any load on your bad foot.
Things to note: you need to be reasonably strong since in my case I had to move my leg, the cast on it and the iWALK, so it is all heavier than normal but not excessively.
I also added additional cushioning to the knee pad - I added a commercial knee pad (that fits inside work trousers) - in my case I used the Snickers 9110 Knee pad underneath the original one and it worked perfectly (£17 a pair on their website) and made it more comfortable.
I haven't found these as easy to use on slopping and very uneven surfaces, though that might be down to practice and confidence. Whilst I can walk on these, I find it reassuring to put my hand on someone's should just in case.
I still use normal crutches but mainly for exercising my bad ankle to gradually increase loading but for most other things, the iWALK is a game changer.”
