“I don't like to give reviews but, this one needs it, literally. All of the info is from 2019. Since then China is no longer a viable option online (since 2022) and there were far too many outdated questions and information on VIP Kids and the other Chinese companies that most likely no longer exist. The evaluation part for seeing where your students should be was good. The questions you will be asked I can assume to get a job "15 questions for an online company interview," was helpful. I am so happy I didn't pay $149 or $199 for this course I would have asked for my money back due to the fact that this course is dated. Update immediately!”
Thank you for the review, James, and the many positive aspects of the course that you highlighted; it is much appreciated. It is correct to say that the situation regarding teaching English in China has changed since the ban on for-profit tutoring by Chinese companies. This has meant that foreign-based tutors (i.e. based outside China) are unable to teach students in China. A number of companies affected by these new regulations are still evolving new programs to teach Chinese students outside China and this still makes up a large part of the market. The companies mentioned in our course still exist and were hiring at the time of writing, but we continually monitor the situation. Due to the fact that information regarding TEO changes so frequently, we have tailored many of the test questions to include the caveat, “according to the unit”, so that we have the opportunity to change the information as needed without penalizing the test taker.
“The course is well structured and easy to comprehend after taking an initial 120-hour TEFL/TESOL certificate. The topics are concise and links to all the supplementary references are provided. Overall, I recommend this course to any one wishing to take the first critical step into the world of online teaching with confidence.”
