“My old and trusted Humax box had packed in so I decided to upgrade to the newer model. Firstly this has a larger disc, and can hold 4 times my old one. It also has more tuners so I can basically always record what I want. But the box has no visible light on the front to show whether it is on or off, recording or not. This is a serious drawback. I also find that it is much slower to respond when being turned on than my previous box. My wife finds the menu system and font harder to follow than the previous model. Connection to our internet by Wi-Fi has been easy and reliable. The ability to go from search to on demand showings is a great feature.”
“I’ve had Humax boxes for many years and have found this one to be not as user-friendly as previous boxes. However, I do love the fact I can record 4 programmes at a time, whilst still watching another, and the fact that I can copy programmes onto a memory stick. My old Humax box has lots of programmes I’d recorded over the years but had no way to remove them so this is a huge thing for me with the new box.
The box gets very hot and is quite noisy. The TV guide is not as easy to use as my old box. I’ve found if I start recording a programme whilst watching it, it will record from the beginning but I’m used to being able to press record and it going from that point, which is what I want to be able to pick up where I left off, not fast forward through a programme trying to find the point I got to.
I’ve found the search facility useless as I’ve searched for programmes I’ve seen are on in the TV guide but it doesn’t show them in the results. I used the search facility all the time on my old box as I was always on the lookout for certain films or programmes. Now I have to be constantly trawling through the TV guide in case.
I think this box is more about the on-demand services, whereas I just want something to use with terrestrial TV, but I’m happy to put up with the annoyances for the ability to record more channels and remove the content. In terms of the product being refurbished, you would never know as it looks new.”
“Bought this to replace my older Humax box which died. This one is not as good considering it is about 10 years newer. It is slower to navigate guide, menus and to search. The addition of Netflix (not on my old box) would be great except half the time it refuses to play with an error code despite being connected via direct LAN cable to the router. It's very slow to boot up. Navigation and file management of recordings is also slower and more cumbersome than before. You'd have thought they'd update products to improve them, but everything about this feels cheaper and poorer quality than my old box which is a shame. It'll do for now, but I won't be buying Humax again in the future.”
“Device arrived in pristine condition and was simplicity itself to set up. Great selection of programs and features plus a massive 2TB of storage, enough for all my needs. Would thoroughly recommend”
“The technical features may be good but from a user perspective the interface is quite poor.
As a very long term user of various Humax PVRs I am sad to say that the usability of this PVR is quite a step backwards from recent predecessors from Humax. The EPG, searching for programmes, setting them to record, listing recordings, getting programme or recording information are all more difficult and less easy and intuitive than the earlier HDR products from Humax.”
“Very pleased with recorder. Although a refurb, no signs of use, seems as new, with all same accessories as a new one but hugely cheaper. Also came with a year's warranty. Superb picture even though not 4k.”
