“We also own a T2 and the new Humax box is lacking in the ability to create a folder to aid filing programmes, we don’t like that you see the tv screen behind the guide as this makes it unclear, we miss the information button on the remote that we had previously, we find it difficult to find programmes we have recorded as it is less clear on the screen. Very disappointed with the light that shows you if the recorder is on or on standby as the light is poorly positioned making it impossible to see. We do like the Freeview play button on the remote, the quick access to Netflix, the ability to record more than 2 channels and the search facility is good,”
“Recorder fairly easy to use, but my old by youview box I felt was better. The layout was easier for an old person to understand
The major problem with this box is the apps, ones in question More4 and My5 . More 4 is very slow and My5 doesn't work, apparently Humax are aware of this problem but unable to supply a fix.
The best features are the size of the recording memory which is excellent and also being able to record numerous channel's at the same time”
“Biggest load of rubbish i have brought who ever designed the software must have been a 5 year old. Will say goodbye to humax (and the 5 year old) no more custom from me. regards Mick.”
“I have not yet discovered how to 'flick over' the advertisements. Instead all I have been able to do is 'scroll' over them. It appears to have a better picture quality than my Humax HDR-FOX T2 which I am still using in tandem with the FVP utilising a 'Fosman' HDMI cable switch. Surprised to find the remote from each machine actuates both machines. An aluminium blanking plate has soved the problem.”
“Not too much trouble to set up, easy to use but I do already have another Humax box. This one is ideal for the facility to record 4 programs at one time and still view live.”
“I had great expectations when I purchased this box for around £250. As I had already been using a BT YouView Box, which is effectively Humax DTR-T2100, I thought FVP-5000T would be an improvement.
How wrong I was.
First, the good points. If you just want to schedule programs and watch them later on or just watch the telly with the options of pause, rewind and forward, great, it will do that.
Now for the points I don't like.
1) You can hear a very quiet hum from the unit, even if it is on standby. When you turn it 'on' from 'standby', you can certainly hear the disk drive starting up.
2) The response to the remote control is slow. You have to make sure you point it directly at the unit and wait for it to act.
3) The use of shiny plastic on the new design attracts plenty of dust.
4) Catchup programs like My5, ITV hub, Ch4 All4 don't work very well. You will be lucky to get past the login screen. My5 does not work at all. However, BBC iplayer and Netflix work very well. (?)
5) If you are planning on using the phone App (Live TV) to schedule programmes remotely, you can forget that. Expect no response from App support. It just about works if you are on the same network. Check reviews on Google play Store.
6) Copying files to usb drive is very slow.
7) There is a 'download' folder, which allows you to copy files to (from usb drive or using ftp) as you will see this in the setup. you can forget using that. The software running on the box deletes any files in the download folder on regular basis!
8) If you were planning to plug a usb drive and play any music files, remember it has very limited support, will play mp3 files okay.
9) Mapping drive to your PC so that you can download / upload file works up to a point. You can download files (recorded programmes), but cannot upload. Windows will display a message informing you of inadequate security (use of SMBv1 protocol), so will refuse to mount the 'download drive' - the only drive you can upload files onto. It appears the software is old and haven't been updated. You can use 'ftp' to upload files to the 'download' folder, but in any case, this is all meaningless as any files in the 'download' folder get wiped out very quickly!
10) Check reviews on 'myHumax.org' and 'hummy.tv' - don't just take my word!
11) Does not have Britbox App. No plans either. Shame, as it has excellent choice of programmes to watch.
12) Support is pretty dire. Expect standard 'Cut and Paste' spiel, with 'factory reset' as the main spiel for any issues. I have been informed by sales that they no longer manufacture 'satellite' boxes. I do wonder if the company is winding down?
13) I have given up using the box, now looking for a better option.”
