“I've been using Humax Freeview digital TV recorders for many years. The last one I'm familiar with was a Fox-T2. The interfaces to these older boxes was very simple and straightforward, but this new box is far too clever for its own good. I've already had to research one feature which isn't covered in the manual, and there may be others. Why use one key press when three will do? I loved the simplicity of the old Humax PVRs. This one is far too messy. The only plus is that the EPG actually loads in a reasonable time, which never happened with the old models. It's okay - it does the job - but I'd change a lot about the menus to make them easier to use. Another triumph of design over usability, I'm afraid.”
“The Freeview play recorder does what it says it does, but the hard drive in noisy, the GUI looks old fashioned and clunky. The app works to a fashion, but again us clunky. You can watch SD recordings on your mobile device which is a plus.”
“Received the Freeview Play Recorder FVP-5000T 500GB & set up all was working very well, ie On Demand Services Working etc. After a day I was Informed that the Freeview box needed a software update to the latest version 1.03.51 Dated 25/April/2019 which I did & all went smoothly. When I then tried to access my On Demand services only BBC iplayer & Netflix could be accessed. ITV Hub & All4 players would lock up on their Logo Screens & My5 would not even open just a Blank screen. I contacted Humax Customer services but their advice did not work. Tried a full reboot etc & even installing in a different property using a different Broadband network & still the On Demand services would not work. Returned for a full refund which took over 3 weeks to process. On checking an online forum this issue with the on demand services is known by Humax but as yet they seem not prepared to deal with. Come on Humax Pull your finger out.....”
