Freeview Play Recorder FVP-5000T 500GB (Refurbished) Reviews

4.2 Rating 452 Reviews
Bought as a replacement for a very old model Human PVR (which now shows signs of its age) I find this PVR a disappointment - primarily because I have had to install a signal booster which the previous recorder did not need. Why a modern machine needs a stronger signal than the older machine is beyond my comprehension - and Human Customer Services were unable, and unwilling, to enlighten me. Even with the additional booster the signal is not strong enough, even at c80%, to allow us to watch in HD - so I cannot imagine how much money I would need to spend on signal improvement and/or additional electrical power needed to boost the signal to a satisfactory level. It appears to me that you probably be faced with expense over and above the PVR price to get it working. All that said, the machine (now) does what it is supposed to do - but it suffers from the modern trend in requiring multiple button pushes to advance towards the actuation of the function you seek, making operation slow and frustrating.

I was surprised by the price, it was cheaper. Good value for money I just wish I had replaced my old one earlier. It also has a guarantee, that was what I made my decision on buying this refurbished item. In future I will be looking at refurbished items.

Love Humax Freeview Play. Can't fault the tech.

As (bad) luck would have it, the Freeview recorder suddenly blanked out and failed to restart this morning, just about as I was about to write this review. I eventually got it restarted. I'm hoping it was just temporary glitch and nothing serious. It seems ok now. Up until this morning's minor problems, it has worked fine. I bought it to replace an older Freeview recorder (Humax) which had a failed hard drive. I don't think the screen menu/interface is as quick or responsive as the previous model - maybe I need more time to get used to it - but there are plenty of features and apps, including all the player apps plus YouTube, Netflix etc, which makes for a rich viewing experience. Recording is easy and reliable. I would say it is a very worthy, and less-expensive, alternative to Sky - fewer channels, but other facilities are the same. I was unfortunately caught out by a sudden and unforeseen price change, when prices on the seller's website were substantially reduced overnight, shortly after I had placed my order, leaving me with a bill much greater than the current value of the item. Just something to watch out - maybe contact them in advance to check if any impending price changes.

Generally satisfied with Player and I would not have known it was refurbished if I hadn't been informed. One slight issue (which now seems to have gone away) is that there was an uncomfortably loud humming noise coming from the box when left on standby.
