Humax FVP-5000T Freeview Play Recorder-500GB Reviews

3.9 Rating 211 Reviews
I find the complexity of this new Humax a bit much. The 'guide' is no where as clear to see or as simple as my previous model, infact I need to change my specs even to try and read it, Not an improvement. Otherwise, so far so good. The ability to halt a live television program and restart if rather good, but as I say too many abilities is a touch too much - for me (I am not a teenager).

This model was recommended to us by a TV servicer when our last set top box packed up suddenly and we are very pleased with it.

Very good system, when it works, I brought this on recent reviews for the system, had to call customer services with in 10 minutes sorted after awhile, the main reason for purchasing was for bbc i player and you tube, now read on sites that there having problems with both needs sorting

Great PVR with the ability to record 4 channels and watch a fifth. Well constructed interface and with a one button access to everything, recordings, tv Guide, Players, Search and settings, it is easy to use. Like the fact it has WIFI but difficult to change from LAN to WIFI in you have network problems. Nice idea with the App, but only works whilst you have network access, and the recording option only works if the unit is on.

Once the instruction book is read, its a simple operation to set up.

It seems to work in a satisfactory way but the instructions could be clearer. It replaces a Humax BT box which has done good service for many years.

To be honest I was a little disappointed. The recorder is not as easy to use or as efficient as the last one I bought (a BT You View box). It is not so straightforward to navigate the controls and I have had difficulty getting the catch-up players to work. The internet speed and connections are the same as before (hard wired to the box with a powerline adapter) yet I find it frequently does not connect or play. I also find the navigation of the TV guide and recordings section much less ergonomic and easy to use. It isn't so easy to find programmes or understand why some programmes I have recorded appear several times in the list.

It is disappointing that BBC IPlayer does not open and play on this recorder.
