I recently decided to invest in this machine because I had run out of patience with theTalkTalk supplied box constantly playing up, however I'm am disappointed and frustrated with this Humax unit already it seems to have a "mind of its own" consequently it will not always record what I want, with no explanation or error messages, nothing ! So I have a recorder that only records on a hit and miss basis

My last one was 9years old and was very good. Wanted one over WiFi for all the extra features this one is brilliant so much choice just about getting used to all the controls. Only one thing never know whether it's on or off the old one had a display on the front and knew when it was recording, the new one has a led light on the bottom which you can only see if you slide unit off the shelf then it will shine on floor. Should have been on the front

Unfortunately I cannot recommend the Humax FVP-5000T. My original Humax player went wrong of 5 years of good service so replaced it with the above model. But I have had nothing but trouble from it. Unable to record reliably, Constant loss of signal, "losses" TV guide which requires it being unplugged from the mains electric for a minute or two before being useable again. I wish I had never purchased this model and trying to arrange to send it back has not been possible because I can never get hold of anyone. Incidentally I used a different model from a friend of mine and had no problems at all, but when my new one was connected up again the same problems occurred again so there is no doubt that this unit is faulty. My email address is dave.hayward@btinternet.com Maybe I might get help now

Very frustrating and annoying. Having to press buttons about ten times for it to play the recording you have. With programmes like Frasier you may have ten recordings. Your recorder always highlights the most recent episode, and not the oldest episode that is the first one you are going to want to see, not episodes out of order. When you identify the episode you have to press the side arrow to then press more buttons to start to see your programme. Trouble getting the subscript on the screen, because I have slight hearing problems. The Sub button does not work and you have to call up a menu to identify subscripts, and it takes several attempts to get it to work. More button pressing. When you want to record several programmes on several different days you have to keep going between the guide menu and the recording menu to identify the different days you want. Standard practice when you buy a TV guide on a Saturday and you try and set the weeks future programmes. You can't stay on the guide. I got so frustrated that I have given the beast to my local charity shop and bought a BT recorder. Very simple and easy to use. You badly need a decent IT programmer.

There are some features not as good as my previous Humax recorder I.e. when starting to record part the way through a program the recording starts at the beginning of the programme meaning you have to try and find the position where you stopped watching. It is not so good at finding a programme and very often fails completely. There is no facility to jump several minutes in a recording.
