“I bought a refurbished device because, all retailers I approached were "out of stock" of this particular Freeview Play Recorder. Humax Direct were advertising refurbished equipment, so I purchased this refurbished FVP-5000T 1TB.
I'm very pleased I did so... it's an excellent device and, the condition "as new".”
“Hard drive was faulty on arrival, all recorder would do was show some live tv, not impressed!! :-( Got replacement within a couple of days. New recorder is ok but a major letdown compared to the older Humax recorder it replaced. Old one worked brilliantly, with no issues at all, until hard drive failed. The 5000T tuned in less channels, and kept giving messages about poor signal. Bought a signal booster but still have same issues with some TV channels although signal strength is 93% and quality is 100%!!! others still pixilate now and again. Had a google and apparently now signal is too strong!!! Recorder is very slow changing channels, accessing menus etc. The switching between back and forth between two channels button on remote stops working if there is more than 10 mins between presses. Recording are in list format, with no way of organising. I used to have folders for film, music, sport etc not any more.”
“Although refurbished it arrived in full packaging as a brand-new product would have been, and looks brand-new, and operates perfectly. So I am absolutely delighted with it.”
“Delighted with my recent purchase from Humax. Bought as a replacement Freeview box for my elderly dad. Fast delivery, ready to set up and use. Delighted with the two year warranty too.”
“I have just bought the Humax FVP5000T as a replacement for my old Humax HDR-Fox T2.
The result is very disappointing.
Several very useful features and functions have been discarded, such as;
• The list of recordings showed recording date and duration of the programme.
• The remote had an information key which when selected whilst highlighting a programme in the recordings list, gave an on-screen synopsis of the programme content.
• It also had forward and reverse buttons which when viewing a recorded programme, jumped the recorded programme forward or back by a minute so that two presses eliminated the TV adverts. If in TV Guide mode, a press of the button would advance the guide by 24 hours.
• The old unit had a circular power indicator light on the front panel which was easy to see from across the room. It indicated if the unit was in standby, power on, or recording mode. The FVP5000T has a small led indicator underneath the unit that you cannot see!
• Whilst in Guide mode for setting up recordings, with the Fox, to check your scheduled programmes you simply pressed the yellow button and the list appeared. Pressing the red button then took you back to the guide. All that has gone with the FVP5000T. If you are in Guide mode to set up recordings and want to see what’s scheduled you have to exit the Guide, select your Recordings, scroll down to Schedule and select. When done, you have to exit this screen and go back into Guide. Very poor.
• The only positive upgrades in the FVP are that it provides iplayer / catch-up services (although not ITV) and can record more programmes at the same time.
• The new unit has an inconsistent functionality when selecting a programme to record. If the programme is available in SD only, you select ‘record this programme’ and it sets it accordingly. However, if there is an HD and SD option and you select HD, the screen asks you again to select and will continue to do so until you select SD. You will subsequently discover that it will now record the same programme several times.
In summary; a disappointing product.”
“Yet another FVP-5000T 1TB from Humax, I have, over the years had a few of these now, mostly refurbed yins as they are good value for money, but this time the Lab boys are slipping, not as good as previous ones I have had.
Quality is nowhere near as good as before and syncing to other devices is not great, this one seems to keep dropping the connection??
Not much help contacting them either, (if you can find a way of doing this)!
I will now just have to struggle on with something which, as I said, is nowhere near as good as it should be, 'caveat emptor' .............. let the buyer beware!!”
“After 12 years of my PVR9300T I had to opt for refurbished FVP-5000T 1TB because of price and I am pleased with it although it is noisy and I turn it off at bedtime to sleep. There is no screen on front to say REC. I connect using hmdi and sometimes the sound disappears and I have to go to input on tv to re set it. When recording the picture behind the guide is offputting but other than that I am getting used to the remote and what it does. Not sure if it will last as long as my old one but it works fine now.”
