Humax FVP-5000T Freeview Play Recorder-1TB Reviews

4 Rating 246 Reviews
As a third time buyer of Humax recorder I'm sorry to say that the user interface has become worse this time around. I think that some if not all of the blame is with the folks that define Freeview Play: EPG frequently reports that programme information is not available. Navigating to next day is harder than with earlier models. Channel Logos in guide are much harder to read than the plain text of earlier models. Recordings are harder to navigate than they used to be with space-wasting screenshots and when you select a series it takes you to The most recent recording - wouldn't it make more sense to go to the earliest one? On the plus side - navigating and playing audio and video from my home network is much better with this model. Sorry Humax, I have to mark this one just acceptable due to shortcomings that may not be your fault...

Compared to my HDR Fox T2 the FVP-5000 has very slow menus and missing features and the 'flashing' of different screens when you select a recording to play is very irritating. Missing features: Cannot create folders to store recordings in. Search doesn't find things until you select another option. No 'i' info button to QUICKLY get program info, when watching a recording you have to press Recordings, scroll to the program and press OK. An LED cleverly placed so you can't see it. Worst feature by far is when you record a program and start to watch the recording before the live program has finished. When it does finish the recording stops and you have to go through the multiple key presses to select it again and continue watching. This was a fault on your early models and was corrected so it worked properly on the later models. You've really taken a backward step with this.

Generally I’m very pleased with my new Humax. It’s easy to operate and seems very reliable so far. However you do have a big problem with the itv HUB. This means that I don’t have access to any ITV channels on my TV if I miss programs I want to see. The itvHUB does work on my iPad. Please get this big problem fixed and let me know.

We are very pleased with our Humax Freeview Recorder. Two suggestions: 1. TV Guide - Could the visual presentation of the TV programs be made more prominent, e.g. use more contrasting colors. 2. On/Off LED- Add an explanation in the Product Manual why it is sometimes a mix of blue and red. Thank you John

Not as impressed as I thought I'd be. The machine and the emote have different ideas quite often and my Roksan amplifier volume control is completely in tune with the on/off control of this Humax box.. which is rather frustrating. Im hoping for firmware upgrades to take the faults away.. and as my Son's box is also going through a menopause I'm sure it's common that certain buttons have different effects at different times of the day - pressing the Guide turns it all off, pressing the OK button starts the guide.. it all seems rather cheap and nasty.

The main comment I would make to improve - would be that the power light (which is currently on the front base) makes it difficult too see & dependant on the surface it is placed the power light is almost obscured. It should be on the front face in a display of the recorder. This display could also be populated showing e.g. what is playing etc etc. This Humax complements the Humax Foxsat-HDR which I have had for some time and this has a front facing display. Nevertheless, I am getting used to the new Humax and enjoy using it. Richard W Hall

good box with easy to navigate menu However, the on demand feature occasionally says not available and you have to mess around a bit to get it to work, hopefully future updates will solve this?
