“We have always liked Humax boxes for the way the guide works and the simplicity. Unfortunately, when the old one broke, we were tempted to get the 5000 by the record 4 programmes, catch up and the ability to wirelessly access the box from smart devices.
This is way slower than previous models and the previously good EPG is now very clunky - and did I say slow. Programme titles, which are truncated because there is not enough space to display them in the EPG (eg Hairy Bikers' Mediterranean .....) are still truncated when you go into the programme details.
The guide is not great and incomplete. For instance it tells you how to set the skip forward and instant replay times but not how to perform either of those functions on the remote.
We have tried the streaming around the house out of interest and will probably never use it again. To use it over the internet (away from home) you need to create an account which we have not done and therefore have not tried setting it up to record remotely.
Displaying recorded programmes is laborious as is switching to a different group, eg favourites, in the EPG.
You can't record small snippets - if you skip back, say 2 minutes, and hit record the recording starts from the beginning of the programme, not the point that you skipped back to.
I'm not sure when we will benefit from the multi recording capability but in the meantime we have to live the rest of the clunkiness. We undoubtedly should have got another 1800T instead.”
“Had my Humax FVP - 5000T recorder for just over a month. It took a few days to get used to it and most functions seem to work OK. I am, however, very disappointed that I cannot access My 5 to watch Channel 5 programmes on catch up. If I had realised this before purchasing the product I would not have bought it. For this reason alone I can only award "acceptable" rating.”
“I am not a technophobe but I have to say this Recorder from Humax has been excellent..straight out of the box. Now if you are going to ask technical questions I would refer you to the Manufacturer of this product, but if you are going to ask how easy it was to operate or how the initial setup instructions were to understand then I could be your Man..Easy on both counts the box worked first time with no problems and if you want to fiddle around with the handset to see what everything does without reading the manual then fear not..you will not break anything. All joking aside this recorder is good value for money and to date we have had no problems...what more can I say than if you are looking for a replacement from Sky or Virgin here is your answer..without the monthly price tag.”

Was Fast Forwarding to review recorded programme but I couldn't stop it forwarding. Would not respond to any button tried on remote. Eventually resorted to switching OFF at mains. Worked OK when switched ON & since.”
“My previous Humax YouView responded quicker. You need to have patience with this one. It lost my recordings once but I found a work around to get them back. It does what it says it can do. This is my third Humax.”
