“As a Humax Foxsat owner for over ten years and delighted both with it and the service from Humax this was an easy choice sadly though it's not been as good an experience. Whilst the basic functionality is the same, but with more simultaneous recordings, the ease of use and the on screen clarity of the functions is no where near the same quality and usability. Whilst the remote has extra functions like Netflix & On Demand the playback buttons have suffered making the things I love about the Foxsat, and use constantly, harder to achieve, and that's if you can suss out how as nowhere are things like scene skip in TSR mode explained and getting assistance from Humax has been a pain. I also find the transparent Guide and list of recordings etc. much harder to see than the solid backed ones on the Foxsat, yes I can see what's on screen still but what I want is to clearly see the details for the function I've selected.
So why do I still give it 4*s? Because it's a great piece of kit I'd not be without and use all the time without the Sky or Virgin subscription charges. I'll keep my Foxsat connected too as it's so much easier to do the things I want and just use the new one to record the conflicting progs.”
“Very simple to set up. This was an upgrade from an older Humax and I was disappointed that the user interface had changed so much, but I'm getting used to it now. I still haven't managed to get the new box to recognise the media files on the older machine, so have to swap between the two via the TV HDMI ports, but it is handy that the one remote control unit operates both Humax boxes.
Generally very pleased with my purchase.”
“Able to record 4 programmes whilst watching another channel. Have bought a freesat humax recorder in the past so was confident of the product quality.”
“Bought to replace a 2013 1Tb Humax that became confused, unstable and unreliable.
I had hoped this new version would offer better response times and a more intuitive user interface. Well, it offers neither.
On the plus side, the recorded picture quality is marginally improved, as is the remote control. Oh, and the case size is half of that of its predessor.”
“Bought this from Humax directly, within the first week we had continual freeze framing, has stuck on rewind and locked out (just does not work regardless of what button we press).. only way to recover is to switch off at the plug every time... i have contacted Humax, but after 2 weeks still no feed back!!”
“I already had a Humax bought in 2011 and it is still going strong. I purchased this new model because of the extra features, I haven't tried them all out yet! I think I prefer the interface on the old model it seems more user friendly but in time I will probably get used to the new model.”
“It does the basics but for a new model it isn’t user friendly, especially if you have 3 tuners. You can’t move recordings into different files like with other DTR/PVRs. Whereas the old Humax recorders had a default to no when choices are made, like delete, this defaults to yes, so you can delete stuff in error. The most important point is it doesn’t make clear you cannot record from the internet, so having access to the internet and on demand services isn’t necessary if you have a SMART TV like I do. So a disappointment I am afraid.”
