“I had an old Humax HD-FOX T2, which I had made into a PVR with the addition of a USB hard drive. This served me well for many years, but the single tuner was a limitation. Therefore, I bought an FVP-4000T, which has three tuners - wonderful, I thought. Until it arrived. There must have been an initial design meeting where they decided to drop metal enclosures, and go for plastic. "Anyone got something we can use as a mould?" asked the senior team leader. "I've got an old pie dish," replied someone. It seems that was used as a test bed, but it was retained. Frankly, it looks and feels terrible, in total contrast to my old Humax HD-FOX T2.
Not only does the old HD-FOX T2 look better, but it also has better features:
o Metal enclosure.
o Skip button on the remote.
o Small screen showing the channel being viewed.
o Front control panel.
All these features are missing on the FVP-4000T. It looks like the bean counters got control of the design team - always bad. I really miss my old HD-FOX T2. It was so easy to skip over adverts with the skip button. Now I have to press pause, arrow up to the time line, and finally arrow right to skip - three key presses instead of one. Sometimes, I have no idea which channel I'm viewing - no display. To listen to the radio with the HD-FOX T2, I could switch the box on, switch to radio via the front control panel, and select a channel. You cannot do that with the FVP-4000T, as you need to use the remote control and TV. Why has Humax downgraded all these really good features? It beats me.”
“I was pleased to find this available form Human Direct as a supplier refurbished unit at a good price. It was delivered within a few days.
Almost from the start, it began switching itself off randomly, which was a pain when the TV picture disappeared.
I emailed HumaxDirect to inform them that I regarded the unit as unfit for purpose and asked for a full refund.
Ten days went by and my husband then telephoned HumaxDirect. The person who spoke to him first claimed that the unit was designed to switch itself off during use (!) and then said that I had not asked for a refund within the allowed time. Once my husband pointed out that my email had been sent well within the 14 days he decided that I was after all entitled to return it for a full refund.
It is due to be collected on 02 January 2018. Only then will I find out how long it takes Human to complete the refund.
What a shame that Human can sell a refurbished and apparently perfectly operating device that is in fact faulty, and then try to distance itself from its obligations to the affected customer.”
“not a very good machine, glad I got a refurbished one cheaper,
every thing is slow press a button takes up to 5 seconds
to do whatever it does, and you have to press buttons really hard to do something”
