“I you are thinking of dealing directly with Humax don't. Received unit which had a faulty hard drive, so would not record or pause live TV. Phoned customer services who told me to do everything I had already done. Eventually said they would swap the unit for me but could only do this by courier on a week day. This was not possible for me as I work 9~5 during the week so I said that I would just return it to them for a refund..... Only problem is that they only accept returns by courier they arrange on a week day. This is a ridiculous way to do business if you are selling online and may even break the law under the distance selling legislation.”
“Had to give up on Freeview as, even with a new aerial & amp the signal just wasn't good enough, particularly for HD. So Freesat seemed the obvious alternative and, having had a refurbished Freeview recorder several years ago, a refurbished Sat box seemed the obvious choice, particularly considering the saving over a new one off the High Street.
And it's proved to be a good choice so far. The box worked faultlessly from being plugged in, was incredibly easy to set up (luckily the previous owner of this house left his dish and cables) and provides a picture that equals Freeview HD.
And the extra bonus of Freesat is their Android app which let's you browse the programme guide wherever you are and set recordings, even when out of the house, and allows a smartphone or tablet to act as a remote control too.
OK, so what's the downside? The only real issue I have is with the programme guide: Freesat carries all the regional variations for every channel in the UK, so picking your region (or any specific region) isn't easy as there appear to be no filters provided so select an area. There are lots of category filters and an HD selecter (probably the most useful one), but this is a minor inconvenience in what is an excellent and very compact recorder.”
“The box crashes after a couple of minutes and then needs to be power cycled (and then crashes again). Humax have so far failed to respond to any queries.”
