“I bought this to replace an ageing FoxSat HDR and I find the HDR-1100S to be far more advanced. If I had to add a criticism, it would be that it has a long boot-up time.”
“Just before Christmas I replaced my satellite dish as it was 11 years old and badly corroded.
At the end of February I lost the signal to my old Foxsat receiver. The F connectors on the LNB had also corroded . So that and the cables were replaced.
Having replaced all of that I updated the Freesat STB with a refurbished HDR- 1100S 500Gb ordered on the 5th of March this year.
When I ordered logged in as as a guest, which was a mistake. The next day I registered with Humax. When I logged in there was no trace of my order. Emailed Humax, no reply. Phoned up and was told that Guest orders are not linked to a registered account. Which is strange as I receive marketing emails from Humax. Humax have still not replyed to that email other than to say they have a backlog. So if you have a query, phone them.
The device is smaller than the old Foxsat. Its rounded so if you have it with a stack of AV equipment as I have, it will have to be at the top. The old box was made of metal and flat, so could be stacked.
There is a seperate power brick, no internal PSU. It a very glossy plastic. Not a good idea for electronic kit. Matte would have been better. There is no LCD display, which I knew about. The LED status light faces down, and is so dim that it's almost invisible.
The supplied instructions are basic to say the least. There is more info on the web site, but its a bit scattered around. Also on the newer models there is no pass through connector so you can connect to say a TV with a Freesat tuner.
Set up is easy. Just follow the on screen instructions. Once you have connected to your network it should be working. The menu is a lot more complex than the old Foxsat !!
I use the Freesat App on a Ipad Air Mk 2. This works well, but you must register with Freesat. Your device must also be paired with your STB. It works well , Programs can be set to be recorded, deleted etc. Works better on the bigger screen of a tablet.
The " go back in time " function works well with the BBC Iplayer. Although I can do the same from the Ipad, which is linked to the TV. The ITV hub works, but there are no subtitles that I can find.
Channel 4 is only in SD on Freesat now. It's still on HD on Freeview. If I did not have an existing sat dish I would have probably gone for the Freeview version. A friend has the Freeview version and menu system is even more complex than the Freesat one.
The refurbished ones are a very good buy., either Freesat or Freeview. I think the more advanced instructions should be included though.
Image quality is only as good as the way your TV is set up. Spend some time in setting it up correctly and it can be very good. It will be interesting to see if the terrestrial broadcasters will transmit any programs in 4k in the future, and if so will Humax bring out a 4k STB ?”
“Very disappointed that ALL 4 app is no longer available which prevents Channel 4 catch up. Other than that pretty pleased with product although remote needs to be rethought. Too easy to miss on off button and hit TV by mistake screwing everything up.”
