“It promised much but, after an initial good start out of the box, it delivered nothing but frustration. I eventually gave up and got a refund. Here are my conversations with Humax Customer Services.

Me: Camera installed OK yesterday. Worked OK. Today I moved it to a new position. It is now 'offline' and all attempts to connect have failed. I have tried reset - it gives the red light then goes blue but will not connect. I cannot delete the camera. Therefore if I try to add a new camera it tells me the camera is already installed. I have even deleted the app and re-installed, and also tried installing under a new email address. Same problem. Camera already installed and because offline cannot be deleted.

Humax: Could you try deleting the application first, then please reset the camera by putting in a pin into the left side. I'll include the manual as an attachment to this email for reference when resetting the camera. The instructions are on page 36. Once this is reset, please redownload the application and attempt the start up process again.

Me: I’ve tried all your suggestions, including attempts to install the system on my wife’s iPhone 7, all without success.

Humax: Could you reply here with the Serial Number of your Humax Eye? After having another look at this, it seems to be that the reason you cannot set the device up on a different account is because it is registered under a different email address. If you could reply here with the Serial Number, I can then deactivate the camera and you can try setting the camera up once more, this should certainly resolve this issue.

Me: It’s still not working. Attached are the two errors I see on the iPhone. (ERROR: Could not change settings, please try again. & ERROR: Snapshot could not be loaded.)

The camera was then returned and a refund issued.

Final comments: The camera is not manufactured by Humax, but is a badged-version of a product from Y-Cam. It could have been faulty, but it did actually work when first installed out of the box. However, I ended up spending so much time trying to get it to work, I simply ran out of patience. My biggest bugbear is that in order to do a 'factory reset', Humax themselves need to deactivate the camera on their server. This - for me - is a bad scenario, as it takes away the user control I would expect for such a device. I'm now looking elsewhere for an alternative product. The user manuals are written very ‘high level’ and (although I am tech-savvy) there is nothing even an IT professional can do to work-around the problems I encountered. AVOID.”
“After having the camera a month, I decided to install it a couple of days ago. Initially very good, but found it reverts to Black and White transmission when say at night with no lights. Ok..I understand that, but what I now think is a fault, when full illumination is restored, the pictures are still in b&w and the red lamp as well as the green lamp is on. Switching off doesn't reset it and all I can do is remove the camera from the app. and re-install it. Not Good”
“This little camera gives amazing pictures. It can be programmed easily and up to four cameras can be linked to the software.
Recording is done if movement is detected but the cameras can be automatically disengaged if you are at home.
The only issue I found was it detects the slightest movement, even flying insects, so you can get ‘false’ alerts.”
“Fast delivery - Excellent quality product - easy to install - great magnetic fixing - guides on U-tube to help - excellent picture - Camera's sometimes drop in and out of internet connection but I think that's my internet but picks up signal again and rectifier's itself. Would highly recommend.”
“Purchased this to monitor our Bungalow whilst on holiday. Smart looking device and esable mountable on the wall (although we put ours on the shelf in the bookcase)
Had a bit of a issue setting up but once completed the picture quality is very good.
The trigger alarm works well, to well in fact as we kept getting alerting 2-3 times a day which we discovered was a fly causing the trigger.
Would certainly purchase another .

“i have 2 Humex eyes and they are fine when they stay connected our internet. However they frequently loose the wi fi signal which is not a problem with our other devices. Usually after 5 minutes they reconnect but about once every week they need to be re booted. Obviously if they lose the signal when you are on holiday and don't reconnect they aren't providing the surveillance you have paid for”
“Although I get an alert, I cannot see what caused the alert as this in not visible on the recording. Am increasing the sensitivity from low to medium to see if this improves matters.”
