“These dowels are straight, straight grained and smoothly finished however, if you expect (as I did) that they will fit in a 1/2 inch wide hole you will be disappointed (as I was). I found all the dowels to be 0.4mm too wide to do this and a close examination of the G&S website shows this. "Our dowels are machined from single lengths of timber and sanded to a tolerance of +/- 0.4mm". Sanding oak dowels down evenly along their length to reduce their diameter even by less than half a millimetre is not easy and is very time consuming. I am lucky that I have a wood lathe that will allow me to do this and with such equipment, it is child's play to reduce the diameter by that small amount. However without a wood lathe I would be flumoxed.”
