Dear Jack
Thank you for your question. It is indeed a very good observation that not many people notice. The reason is that it is the standard way to display maps in Astronomy: traditionally all the stars charts are made like this. If you were lying on the ground in a starry night, looking up to the starry sky, vertically with your feet pointing South and your head North, the West would be at your right hand side and East on your left. It is basically the same effect as looking at your reflection in a mirror.
I really hope this helped. Please let me know if you have any further doubts or if you need any more assistance with your map.
Enjoy your new map!
Kind regards,
Dennis
“Got my star map printed at a local printinger company into an 18x24 poster, and it looks amazing! Even with the star map blown up that big it kept its high quality. Giving it to my girlfriend for Christmas, I know she’ll love it”
“This was a great experience. All three came out wonderful - all I have to do is frame them and I have a great Christmas present. Very excited. Will be my go to gift for new babies going forward.”
