Viburnum are evergreen or deciduous shrubs with dense, green foliage and lovely star-shaped flowers which bloom from late Winter until the Spring. Viburnum Tinus are very attractive with masses of dark, oval green leaves that bear small white flowers in late winter followed by dark blue-black fruit, height can reach up to 3m. Viburnum can be used as an informal hedge and are tolerant of partial shade. They are best suited to moist, well-drained and moderately fertile soil which can be achieved by adding good quality compost. The flowers of many Viburnum are highly fragranced so are fabulous when planted by a pathway or entrance where they can be fully appreciated. They are very easy to care for and only need minimal pruning to remove any unwanted growth. This should be done in mid-summer after flowering.
