You have to look at these KitchenAid stand mixers as an investment. They're not cheap, but if you don't want to rely on getting cheap and nasty rubbish from China (like Ken***d), you need to vote with your wallet. The company although bought by Whirlpool still make these in the USA and there is a 5-year warranty with repairability for at least 15 years. The other great part is that you can buy spares easily and fix these yourself should the need arise, but they are solidly built. The mixer is easily disassembled unlike other makes and there are plenty of videos out there to show you how to replace the worm gear (the only Nylon / Kevlar gear in there) that is designed to break on overload to prevent damage to the other parts. Hopefully you won't need to. Attachments can be on the pricey side, but personally, for the standard mixer attachments (Dough Hook, Beater & Whisk), I opted for a model with these made from stainless steel, instead of the aluminium and coated versions. I have seen this type catch on the bowl over time and the coating then gradually comes off. I opted for the additional glass bowl with a cover, so that I can take it off the mixer and put it into the microwave for melting or warming ingredients then connect it back to the mixer as needed - this saves transferring into microwave safe and back again and saves on the washing up! I've ordered a veg slicer and grater attachment as that is what I will likely use, and will possibly consider the meat grinder in future for making my own burgers etc. But for now, it has everything else I need. I used to have 3 Ken****d mixers, and all of them failed within a year, with some attachments where the safety interlock failed so were lethal. So I am done with them and the cheap Chinese construction, having now firmly invested in the KitchenAid camp. Have made a variety of culinary miracles so far using KitchenAid's own recipes from their website and these have turned out perfect. The colour looks like it could of come directly from the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan, but hey, it's a light yellow and at the end of the day it's the mixer that counts!
