“Having been on a bit of a “whiteout” bender as of late, it’s refreshing to see a dial that just switches it up a notch and adds a subtle pastel super light blue tint. “Frost” is a perfect descriptor and it provides a little something unique to this Geckota Ocean-Scout. The blend of a little sharp black to mark the minutes, satin white hour markers with 3-6-9 numbers only and a double marker for the twelve - as well as the illuminated twelve o clock pip all work beautiful together to provide a clear read at any glance, without pulling back from the “white out” winter theme.
The clincher is the brushed stainless steel bezel! Every dot, number, groove is lumed to the moon and back! It’s a beautiful effect and a feature lost on the black bezel version with the pure white dial. The dial print is exquisitely fine and “small”. Really pin point neat and tidy. Sharp isn’t strong enough. It’s absolutely surgical in precision and is actually worth just staring it now and then to enjoy how neat it all is. It’s like the iPhone going to the first “Retina” display. Engrossing.
Intend to run at an 18 wrist with a preference for a larger 40mm plus case. Lately though, some of the smaller brands have made some brilliant 38 to 40 efforts that frankly wear so confidentially that they simply can’t get lost an any wrist that isn’t make of ancient trees! This is one of those. Size doesn’t matter. I’d say it wears as a small 38, but that’s to overlook the package as a whole. Finally, I went with the grey nylon and a Berwick in the sale separately… The Berick clasp is slightly different between the strap on sale and the strap included. Overall though, the Berwick is identical otherwise and in hindsight’s I don’t think there’s a case to be made for the nylon option default. I’ve picked up several 20mm canvas and fabric efforts to play with think a dark charcoal thicker fabric might work well, and I’m going left field on a variegated silky blue leather affair to see if a bold almost deep aquamarine plays off the “frost” dial… but you’re dealing with someone who recently paired a stone washed lighter red canvas with the Citizen “ecozilla” and a lug adapter. So, perhaps I’m not to be trusted. Point being though, this watch had a lot of potential for strap play… All in all, I’d rate it highly. Good price, attractive, subtly playful, tough… Go for it. I’m even considering the black bezel version if it makes it to sale price, just because it’s that much entertainment.”
