“The product seems strong and durable. The reason for the poor score is simply that there aren't any instructions as to how to use the self watering system. The "ticket" attached to it only refers to removing the bungs for outdoor use. There seems to be no way to find out how to use it as intended, although a customer service person at Gardening Naturally was helpful. I have kept the trough as I'll manage to do something with it.”

Hi, I am very sorry to see this. The self-watering insert is usually added as an extra if you would like to reduce the need for watering, to enable this, you insert the bungs and the tray insert and fill with compost above this point, when you water the pot, the water will slowly drip down into the basin beneath and will and on hotter days will evaporate back into the soil above, reducing the need for as regular watering.
