Through the flybubble Match service, I had the opportunity to fly the Phi Maestro 2 in comparison to the Beat. The Beat being a mid B and the Maestro 2 being a high B Firstly the Beat was a fantastic wing to fly with great characteristics and i have supplied a review of that as well. So what another fantastic wing to fly, I have now flown this in light conditions and also top end, straight from launch I can feel the differences between this and the Phi Beat. The launch is very well mannered and comes up cleanly and will sit into the wind very nicely but make sure you do a check on launch that all lines are clear, as they are unsheathed lines they can tangle easily if your preparation is not good, I had this a couple of times and I will have to get used to taking great care with the lines, just something I will have to learn but it will be worth it. Forward speed on launch is excellent it cuts through the air nicely without losing much height. Brake travel and stall point are different from the Beat, the brake travel is shorter, the turns are tighter and the stall point is higher which is nice when landing but you will have to be aware of it in the air for obvious reasons. This I will definitely have to find the limits on another SIV course so a good excuse to get out there again In flight the wing has very good forward speed, is very responsive to speed bar and brake input, big ears come in nicely and stay in without holding the outer A lines, a good firm pump on the brakes and they come out again easily, something that I really liked the characteristics of. Turns are tight and precise, the wing cuts through the air nicely and gives you good feedback but does require more active flying compared to the Beat. I managed to hook up a thermal at Caburn that took me straight to cloud base all be it a low cloud base but I was out there to test the wing and not try and set records. A very nice efficient climb, it wants to climb and the glide characteristics are superb. Going through a bit of rough air it cuts through the air nicely, another confidence inspiring wing. To me, the difference between the Beat and The Masesto 2 is that the Beat is an excellent all-round wing that does it all. The Maestro 2 is an XC machine. If you are looking for a high B wing then definitely add this one to your list and try to fly it before you make your final decission, you will not be disappointed, I was not I have to mention a couple of points that I did pick up on. Firstly the lines, you will need to take care of packing and laying out the lines on launch, as they are unsheathed and thin they will tangle easily and catch on objects on the ground if you are not careful. This is something you would need to take into account. Colours, well minor point you either like them or you don't, I like bright coloured wings that are easy to spot in the air from above and below so that leaves you only one colour - orange. A couple of the colours will blend into the ground clutter easily, something we found out when I was trying this wing and had the launch filmed. As i said a minor point and a personnel preference In summary an excellent wing, very nice flying and thermaling characteristics, short brake travel to be aware of in the air but great to get to the stall point on the ground. Definitely, a wing to put on your list for a High B wing. So would i buy this wing ? Yes
