Review of Phi Beat Light. I am so far very pleased with my new Phi Beat Light, recommended by Nancy at Flybubble. I have the M (75 to 95) flying at 85kilo. I have managed a couple of hours’ airtime plus about 4 hours ground handling. I am fairly low airtime progressing up from a safe ‘A’ (Ozone Mojo 5), which I was always flying overweight, to the mid ‘B’ Beat. I wanted a light glider and harness as I am quite short (5’3”), not in first youth (71) and I want to be able to walk up to a wide range of hills. A couple of days ago at my local coastal hill the wind was strong (20 - 25 kph) but smooth and the Phi Beat was so easy to launch, I was top of the stack with equal penetration to people on older 'C' wings and so much extra on speed bar. With 300m above launch (500m over the beach) I was able to practice for a couple of hours with the wing, pitch control, 360's, big ears and speed bar as well as landing and take off and in everything it is so responsive yet precise and not at all surprising. I felt at one with the wing and harness in a way I never have before. In the Light version it is very lively lying on the ground, it picks up in the wind and needs to be nailed down with the ‘C’s’ and kept bunched until ready to fly. I used A’s and C’s to launch and had no problems, it just wants to fly so as it comes overhead loading the chest strap and a couple of firm steps and I was airborne and penetrating and climbing. I have confidence in the wing to take it to new sites and to progress my flying skills, so looking forward to a good summer!
