After flying an Advance Impress 3 harness (no-seat board) for a decade, I decided to upgrade to an Impress 4. As you expect from Advance everything about it is well designed and of high quality. There's sufficient space in the back pocket and I liked the fact the pod zips off and is replaceable, unlike some other harnesses. Although a sturdier harness and with a seat-board, I felt instantly at home on it during my first flight. I noticed weight-shifted turns were quicker to initiate and I could get my wing (Alpina 3) tightly banked up with less inside brake than the old harness. The I4 seemed less 'wobbly' than the previous one and was more relaxing to fly in choppy air but still gave good feedback for sniffing out thermals etc. I found with the old harness, I was always flying with the pod pointing far too downwards as the only was to adjust the pod angle more upwards was to further shorten the pod length, but then my legs were too cramped. With the I4 there's an additional strap that directly controls the angle of the pod and now it is perfectly horizontal. My sink rate, noticeable when I'm flying close to the ridge, generally seems to have improved due to the greater overall aerodynamic efficiency of the harness. I also found it easier to get into the pod after take off. I did briefly try the wind shield which is designed to reduce wind noise and wind chill. It certainly does but I actually found it too effective! I missed the information the changes in wind noise provided about my flying environment – it felt like I was about to enter a parachutual stall it was so quiet! Hence, I prefer to fly without it but others may enjoy the peace and quiet it offers. After flying the I4 for six months, I absolutely love the harness and wouldn't fly in anything else. It feels more comfortable than the old one and I don't regret the extra weight when carrying it around: the harness folds in half and with my wing wrapped around it, fits the well designed supplied rucksack perfectly and forms a fairly compact shape which is comfortable to carry on long walks.
