Whole Chicken with Giblets (5kg) Reviews

5 Rating 19 Reviews
Read Field & Flower Reviews

With a richer, fuller flavour than smaller chickens and proven to be a real family favourite, our large chicken makes a great option for Christmas entertaining. Deliciously tender and flavoursome meat that pairs perfectly with homemade giblet gravy (we always include the giblets with our whole chickens). Not to be confused with a capon, which are no longer legal to produce in the UK, our large chickens are the perfect ethical alternative to these larger birds. Our chickens are reared by Stuart Perkins on his Castlemead Farm in Somerset. Stu's chickens are free to roam and forage across the farm, feeding on grass and insects, as well as home grown cereals that Stu will scatter for them. Stu’s care and effort will shine through when you taste our premium, free-range large chicken. Serves 8 to 9 people. This product is only available for delivery on our Christmas delivery days (Thu 19 Dec, Fri 20 Dec, Sat 21 Dec, Sun 22 Dec, Mon 23 Dec, Tue 24 Dec)

As usual it was delicious - succulent and tasty - we much prefer it to turkey

I chose the huge chicken, this year, even though I knew we would be down to three only for the meal. I followed the cookery instructions you kindly sent, made the stuffing recipe (tweaked a little by me) and this resulted in a chicken dinner, the like of which I cannot remember. WHAT A STUNNING BIRD! With stuffing inside, it took a little less than the three and a half hours cooking time, but only fifteen minutes. It was delicious, juicy, and including the stock from the boiled down carcass, fed us for days. (Cold, curried, in a risotto, souped, some in a doggy bag for our visitor). I hope that you continue to do these enormous chickens. For those of us who do't want turkey, goose, or duck, they are a fabulous alternative, in fact, given a choice, to eat a chicken as good as that is all that I ask for. Thank you. One of the best Christmas dinners that I have ever cooked (at 62), and I have made some fine ones in the past. Pigs in blankets were also very delicious, so as far as we are concerned, A MASSIVE HIT.

The slow grown chicken we had for Christmas was beautiful - tender and succulent - never going back to Turkey! Served 6 for Christmas, 6 for a curry with left overs - and still had a full breast left over for cold cuts and sandwiches. Amazing value and delicious!
