Chicken, Whole, With Giblets (2.25kg) Reviews

Read Field & Flower Reviews

Our free-range chickens are tender and deliciously succulent. We’ve yet to find a bird as tasty and moist as ours. Using a whole chicken is a great and cost-effective way to make the most out of your meat. Roast a chicken and see how many meals you can make from the leftovers. Remember that the carcass can always be used to make a homemade stock for the freezer. All whole birds come with the giblets inside in a separate bag. Our chicken is reared in truly free-range conditions by Stuart Perkins at Castlemead Farm. Stuart is a third-generation farmer and keeps his chickens in small flocks of 200 so he can focus on the highest standards of welfare. The chickens are never given antibiotics and are slow grown, living twice the length of a supermarket bird.

Having seen some of the previous reviews, the bar was set pretty high as this was the Christmas Dinner bird! Two words ... Absolutely. Delicious. I bought a slightly bigger bird than I thought I needed, so that there would be plenty of leftovers, but it was so darned tasty that most of it was wolfed down on the big day! It was just like the chicken that I remembered as a child - properly 'chickeny' and with a deliciously crispy skin! The leftover carcass etc.. went into the freezer and is now in a stock pot, bubbling away to make a chicken stock.

This chicken was very juicy and tender. So much nicer than any generic posh supermarket chickens we’ve cooked. Made lovely stock and gravy too.

What a beauty. A wonderfully large, plump chicken with SO much meat. I cooked it as a pot roast on Sunday and three adults and a toddler tucked in. I then used the leftovers to make three potato-topped chicken and vegetable pies before boiling up the carcass to make chicken broth (which had plenty of meat in it, too). I also used the giblets to make some good stock. In total, that one chicken easily provided 10 meal portions. Excellent value and lovely quality meat.

Very tasty chicken, which was gobbled up quicker than I expected by my teenagers so my only complaint is there wasn't as much left for Boxing Day sandwiches as I had hoped! It was great to get the giblets for making stock.
