Such a lovely duffel bag! Very well made, the fabrics are tough and construction is solid. I have a much cheaper brand of bag in a 90L size, which was too big for all but multi-week trips and was made of a horrible stiff fabric that doesn't enjoy being creased. In comparison, the Patagonia fabric is sleek and supple, but still feels very durable. In smolder blue w/ buckwheat gold, I think this just looks incredible and really stands out from the crowd but in a subtle way. Sure, there are more fully-featured duffel bags out there. But as the name suggests, this does its job very well just like a collapsed star from which not even light can escape - I mean, a large receptacle for storing and carrying lots of kit (!). I've found the 55L one to be just perfect for weekends or whole weeks with sailing and overnight gear, or some hiking and climbing kit. The shoulder straps are pretty comfortable, not amazing and this won't ever be a proper backpack, but given the capacity it wears comfortably enough over short distances. The carry handles work fine, and I think the metal poppers that join them together are a touch classier than velcro versions on other brands. The side pocket is capacious and expands into the inside, with some careful planning while packing it can be a really useful quick-access pocket for the more useful bits and pieces like multi-tool, torch, sunglasses, notepad, mini tool kit etc. I haven't found a good use for the lid mesh pocket yet, and I would have slightly preferred it to be split into two pockets, but it would do well for separating non-bulky items that sit pretty flat (since this is the top of the bag, and the side that sits against your back when wearing it). On top of all that, and one of the overarching reasons for choosing this over other brands, is that I really like what Patagonia do and have always set out to do - leading the way in environmentally-conscious goods and activism. All this quality and ethical goodness, and it isn't even much more expensive than most other name-brand duffels of the same size!
