It was great to be able to study in my own time from the comfort of my own home without any need to travel, which also saved a lot of time. The weekly live subject support sessions were a great way to keep me on track and have a place to ask questions about the course material. More real world examples to put the academic knowledge into context would have been helpful for greater understanding of how the topics we were learning work in reality.

I undertook this course as a non-law graduate in order to progress to an LLM at the university of law. The course content is well organised with a mixture of reading, videos and activities to do for each unit. There are also live sessions each week where you are able to ask questions and reflect on the content learnt which I found particularly helpful. The course content is heavy and I found the part time course sometimes quite demanding alongside a full time job. I certainly haven’t been able to retain all of the information I studied during the course, but it has provided a crucial introduction to law for me and I would recommend it as a great option if you don’t want to do a whole conversion course.

Content is good but a huge amount to cover in a short time on the part-time course. I will need to redo the course again in my own time to feel confident. Administrative organisation of the course needs to be improved eg. One session tutor did not turn up, missed another session due to issues with timetable, sent out of date manuals and given incorrect info about payment plan.

I would highly recommend the SQE Law Essentials (SQELE) course, as an accessible and resourceful option for non-law graduates who are looking to progress to the SQE 1 course. The University of Law has curated a fantastic range of resources to help you prepare, engage and consolidate your understanding of the fundamentals of academic law. There is a focus on exam technique from the get-go, to familiarise you with those all-important single best answer questions. I am excited to be a part of the first wave of lawyers, born out of this more open and accessible qualification process.
