Monterey Helford Gin 70cl Reviews

Read Drink Finder Reviews

This Cornish gin is made only a few miles from us here at Drink Finder. Under the shade of the Monterey Pines on the banks of the Helford River here in Cornwall. These majestic trees are native to the coast of California and particularly in Monterey County but have become familiar across the Cornish coast where they stand tall over the native coppiced oaks of the Helford. After two years of development distilling with different botanicals and techniques they have cracked it. Two years well spent we say. Made using an organic base spirit and the finest botanicals, this has made a premium gin with a premium flavour profile. This beautiful presentation has come about from when the Monterey Pines were planted here in Cornwall, back in the 20s and 30s - the time of The Great Gatsby, prohibition and Art Deco movement.Awards:Trophy Winner - Best London Dry 2020 - IWSC 98/100 Outstanding! Our Perfect Pour:Keep it classy, simple and Cornish. Lots of ice, wedge of citrus fruit and Navas Cornish Tonic Water.Read more on Monterey in our Meet The Maker blog series - Meet The Maker Monterey Distillery

A lovely ‘clean’ and refreshing gin. No silly, over-powering, added tastes. Goes wonderfully well straight with tonic or as a base for a classic Negroni.

A smooth gin, exciting to the taste buds but fair warning, once open it will be drunk - make sure you have a replacement bottle!

When initially purchasing a bottle, the shop staff commented on how this was a firm favourite of theirs, especially for gin cocktails and after tasting it, I also think it's a really nice gin! Produced in Cornwall, it took 2 years for them to master this excellent smooth gin. It has that lovely warming effect when taken neat with a definite citrus, coriander and cardamon taste but not too much and as said before, it's super smooth! I have yet to make it into a cocktail but form my initial thoughts, it will taste good with anything!

So yummy (second bottle is on the way). Really clean and crisp. Makes the perfect gin and tonic.

This is like sipping on sunshine in a sea breeze. No harsh paint stripper after notes. Not overly aromatic; no aftertaste of perfume. Clean, crisp with a tantalising, subtle palate. Goes well with frozen cranberries and a twig of rosemary. A must try.
