“Love the stove for heat from burning wood, however having a little trouble getting any decent heat from smokeless coals or anthracite, I did run some coals overnight when it was freezing cold just to keep the tortoise warm overnight and it was mild when I came downstairs at 5am if not I dare say it would have been around 9-12°c but it was 16°c when I came down. Using with wood the hole house is heated up in around an hour with living room getting to around 27°c if I have the doors shut.

The air controls would need to be adjusted slightly differently when burning smokeless fuels as opposed to wood, as wood burns best with its main air supply coming from above the fuel bed whereas solid fuels are best supplied with air from beneath.
Upon laying out the fuel bed, it would be best to set the primary air control so that it is fully open while the secondary air control is roughly a quarter open. You can then regulate the primary air flow as needed while keeping the secondary air flow to a minimum, just enough to provide airwash down the front glass.
This being said, there will always be a certain amount of experimentation involved with the air controls, so that you can get the burn to a level that is best for yourself considering the draw of the flue.

“Haven't done any big long burns yet (have only been priming the stove as per instructions, gradually building up in intensity) but certainly seems to kick out some heat, feels much more efficient for the same amount of wood as my previous Charnwood from 2007. Nice clean lines. Door is quite wide so you may need to think about how much hearth you have in front of the unit. Very happy so far, great price from Direct Stoves - thank you!”
