This dipslide features two different agars / growth media (one on each side of the dipslide). This dipslide has Tryptone Soya Agar with TTC (red spot dye) and Rose Bengal Agar. Tryptone Soya Agar with TTC - This agar features red spot dye which makes it easy to view and count colonies. TSA detects and shows growth for a wide variety of fastidious and non fastidious organisms. It is a general purpose agar that is most often used to detect aerobic bacteria. Anaerobic bacteria can grow on this agar if incubation is under anaerobic conditions. This agar is often used for environmental testing. TSA will give a total bacterial count (TVC). Rose Bengal Agar - This agar is selective for yeasts and moulds (fungi). It is very often used to test cosmetics and food samples. Antibiotic content in this agar may suppress bacterial growth. To use the dipslide, you can either dip the slide into your sample, swab onto the dipslide or press the slide against a surface. Once your sample has been transferred onto the dipslide, you then incubate the dipslide. After incubation, you can then count the colonies / spots and compare with the chart provided. A step by step pictorial guide can be found below. These RBS dipslides come in a pack size of 10 slides per box. The slide has a flexible paddle and is within a shatterproof container. How to use RBS Dipslides Step 1 : Remove slide Carefully remove the sterile RBS dip slide from its tube ensuring that no contact is made with the agar (to avoid contamination). Step 2 : If Surface Testing For surface testing, press the RBS dipslide onto the surface. If needed, place a finger on the bottom of the slide (on the plastic, not the agar) to apply extra pressure. Step 2 : If liquid testing For liquid testing, immerse the RBS dipslide into the fluid for 10 seconds then remove and allow to drain for a few seconds. Step 2 : If swab testing Apply a sample of the test substance to a sterile swab and gently apply to the agars. Step 3 : Incubate Slide Label the tube with the included stickers then place the slide into an incubator and allow to incubate. Step 4 : Compare results Count the amount of colonies that have grown on the slide and compare them to the comparison chart provided. Easy Run Off Design Due to the design of the RBS dipslide, fluids will drain off quickly during testing. Recessed Handle Each slide has a handle built into the lid that is recessed to help keep your fingers dry during testing. Side Indicator One side of the slide will have a circle indicator so you know which side was used for testing which type of contaminant. Dual Sided Each RBS dipslide is dual sided to allow multiple contamination testing with one test. Thick Reliable Agar Each agar is thick (approx 4mm) and raised above the dipslide to allow for easy surface testing. What is a RBS Dipslide? Also when you say dual-sided, I find it a bit confusing to understand and wanted to be sure if each tube possesses one side which works for bacteria AND one side which work for fungi/ yeasts? A Hello, Regarding liquid paint, due to the pigment in the paint, you may not be able to see growth on the dipslide properly as the paint may cause a colour barrier making it difficult to interpret results. The alternative is to test dry paint flakes. However, maintaining sterility with this method is difficult so we only suggest testing raw materials of paints due to the concerns above. Surfaces of dry paintings could be tested using the surface testing method. Each dipslide has an agar on both sides. These can be the same agar or two different ones depending on the dipslide (10 slides per box - all slides have an agar on both sides of the slide).
