Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review Mr Johnson. I called and spoke to your wife earlier to clarify which of the starter boxes you'd had trouble with, she told me you're knowledgable about the types of wood and had said you believed it to be the Oak that had smoked.
You are correct in thinking if Oak is added to a fire that hasn't quite got going or isn't hot enough, as it is such a hardwood it burns like coal, without a bright flame and it can often smoulder. This is why we do mix ours with the Birch which is easier to light.
I believe the firewood is for an open fire than that a log burner in which case I could recommend the Dalby Gold to avoid the smoking in future, I hope this helps.
