“I live in an area that sees a lot of snow and ice and slush in the winter months as well as a fair bit of rain during the other times of the year. I was looking for a more casual style of boot that would work well in inclement weather and be equally at home in casual environments as well as for actually roughing it on mild hikes and walks.
You would be hard-pressed to find a better option. The leather used and construction, like all Cobbler Union stuff I've purchased, is top-notch. The last is a very elegant one - one I associate with a more rounded British style. I also find the upper part of the boot very comfortable. The typical boots on the market tend to be overly large here and don't really close well around the lower part of the leg - as a result, it is the foot that they primarily hang onto and you have the experience of physically lifting the boot hanging onto your foot with your leg, like someone strapped 5 lb weights to your foot. This one actually closes well around the ankle area and the result is a boot that feels more molded to your legs and feet and movement feels more natural. Finally, I really like the aesthetic of the boot. It looks sufficiently classy that it would pass muster at work - in fact, when you stand and with trousers covering the upper part of the boot, it looks like a well-made cap toe. Which I guess was the aesthetic of the classic naval boot - it had to be something the admiral would not be ashamed to meet the PM in for the briefing and yet look at home on the bridge of the battleship. You would be excused, as you lowered the binoculars, for using those long, eye-on-the-horizon stares - you do have one of those, don't you?”
