First use was very good but second use it seemed to get confused going in and out of the shadows ie it seemed to detect the shadow line on the grass a border.

Last year I had bought a Cleva robotic mower (the type which needs a base station fed off the mains, and a perimeter wire) after my son had bought one. Knowing the cost of other well-known makes of robotic mower, I thought that the much-cheaper Cleva wouldn't be much good. I was wrong. I immediately bought one for myself, and it has proved to be the best gardening investment I've made. We removed some steps which linked one patch of lawn to a lower one, and turfed over the ramp. The mower now does the lot. So last week, when I received a promotional email From Cleva, I saw that there is now a "Drop and Mow" version. I bought one, although concerned that I'd need to install some sort of physical barrier around the remaining patches of lawn which can not be cut using the perimeter wire mower because of inaccessible electricity supply. Not so: the Drop and Mow recognises the edge of the lawns, which is just as well because there is a 2' drop from some. Admittedly, the Drop and Mow does not cut right up to the edge, unlike the perimeter wire type; and it avoids areas where the grass is discoloured (in the drought). But the battery has plenty of stamina, and again I'm very glad to have bought the machine. I can strim the missed edges, whilst 90% of the work is done by the robot. Of course, unlike the perimeter wire type, the Drop and Mow cannot work when you are away on holiday. That is a great benefit of the perimiter type - you come home to find the grass already cut. I don't know how they do it for the price. I have no connection with Cleva Ltd.
