Based on the classic and best selling 110 Folding Hunter, the new 110 Hunter Slim has an updated modern design. Delivering the performance you'd expect, the S30V steel blade provides excellent edge retention. Due to customer demand a deep carry pocket clip, which can be removed if preferred, has been added. This traditional knife has been given a sporty look with a black G10 handle which is lighter and thinner but just as strong and durable as the original 110.
Based on the classic and best selling 110 Folding Hunter, the new 110 Hunter Slim has an updated modern design. Got my 110 Folding Hunter Slim Pro G10 (long name) on special offer at £50 and it still wasn’t worth it. On the good side: Out of the box it looks awesome, the blade is nicely ground with a good sharp toothy edge, the swedge is smoothed and crowned as it’s going to be in your pocket. S30V is an already excellent blade alloy and by all accounts the Paul Bos heat treat really does improve performance. The blade is hollow ground and thin behind the edge and the blade stock is half a millimetre thinner than the classic 110 making it an excellent slicer. The deep carry clip has screw heads inside the clip making it a little finicky to use but is otherwise good. The G10 scales are bevelled at the edges and well textured to provide excellent grip. On the bad side: Pinned construction. Seriously Buck it’s 2019 and you’re still pinning knives? The thumb studs are next to useless, they’re pushed back to keep them out of the slicing path but in concert with the stiff pivot that makes it very hard to open with the studs. To be honest I’d have been happier with a nail nick and I’m left handed. (Buck still only cut a right handed nail nick in to their blades.) Above all though by far the biggest issue is vertical blade play. After braking in the tight action it suddenly developed alarming vertical blade play. Although the blade doesn’t move very far it does feel alarmingly “clicky.” It may be that the pivot hole in the tang is slightly wider than the pivot pin but it feels very much like the lock is about to fail? I can only go by the knife I own but it doesn’t feel safe to use and it’s been put away with a sticky note on it marked “unsafe.”

The knife is light and useful with a sharp but roughly ground edge 'right out of the box' . The blade has both up-and-down and side-to-side movement in the handle. It is also hard to open with the thumb studs due to an overly strong lock spring. I think it is over-priced considering what else is on the market.

Sturdy construction, firm blade lock, comfortable modern handle. Blade, sharp as a razor. Compares very well with my 35+ years old original 110 Hunter, which is still in excellent condition and holds a good edge. A company with a long tradition of excellent products.
