“I had reservations about wearing wood on my face but it looks really cool and contemporary. It makes a strong statement about my values. Although this is the smaller version, they are still pretty big. Initially I was a bit worried about it but they do actually go well with many of my outfits (I enjoy natural fibres and earthy colours and a unisex look). However they slide on my nose so I have to use some flimsy nose pads and don’t know how long they’ll last (I have to glue them as otherwise they won’t stay on). I was offered a few models to try first before buying and that was great. A major gripe is that the lenses are not as dark and neutral coloured as shown in photos and in the trial models, but actually quite strongly tinted. I got the grey for these but it’s actually purple. I’ve seen the amber and it’s red/orange. It doesn’t go so well with the natural colours of the frame. I also wish they offered more smaller models as there are plenty of the men’s specs I like but I worry that they’re too large for my face (especially if I were to get clear ones for everyday use). I don’t want round, feminine looking glasses at this point. I did make a mistake when I wrote up my prescription and considering how obvious it was, it’s strange that no one inquired about it before going ahead with the manufacturing process. But customer service was friendly so even though it all took a long time, it was worth it for just how personal it all looks. Since I depend on prescriptions,I waited all my life to get cool sunglasses.”

“I am absolutely stoked to own these glasses. The entire process was great, from the virtual “try-on” (which is incredibly accurate), to the thoughtful packaging. The glasses themselves are fantastic- lightweight but durable, stylish, and make a huge difference on brighter days. I needed non-polarized glasses while flying helicopters and these are a huge help. Bonus points for having skinny arms that easily slide over the ears when wearing aviation headsets. Would definitely purchase another pair!”

“I think the frame materials and lenses look brilliant. They're nice to wear, and the ethics make me feel even more comfortable. I'm not a spectacles wearer (yet) and more used to sports sunglasses, so I have reservations about the durability of the hinges (I've had to tighten the right hand side already). These are by far the most expensive shades I have ever bought; they replace a £50 set from another manufacturer that lasted just 2 years of careful use - unacceptable! I trust the Birds are worth the money for the myriad positive reasons you can read about on the website - not least that they are convincingly recyclable. However, longevity is also important to counteract our throwaway society, but only time will tell in this regard (and would then warrant 5 stars). My only gripe: I'm not too internet savvy, and was a bit disappointed I was offered 10% off AFTER I made the purchase! I'm hoping I don't have to buy another pair for a long time, so don't know when I'll see this discount. Really great to buy 'British' though. Keep up the good work.”
