I bought a set of Evah Pirazzi bass strings (Medium tension) 10 days ago, to replace an decade-old set of D’Addario Helicore. So far, I’ve been pleased with the tone and the playability. They seem to need less bow pressure than the Helicore and I find I’m playing further from the bridge. When changing the strings, it was noticeable that the Evah Pirazzi need more turns of a tuning key to change the pitch of a string by a semitone than the ones I was replacing (In technical terms, a lower Young’s modulus.) This has a couple of effects: whereas I used to notice that, as I played more loudly, particularly on the open low-C, the pitch went up slightly, this no longer happens, which I’ve checked with a tuning app on my phone. And the harmonics are more accurate than with the Helicore strings. The strings dropped about three-quarters of a tone in the first 24 hours but since then they have been very stable and they seem immune to the difference in temperature from being in the back of a cold car to a warm rehearsal room. Overall, I’m pleased with the purchase.
