I've just bought a silver Sinfonica z-tek with wheels, and couldn't be more pleased! It's all round prettier, neater and lighter than the heavy black old faithful case my cello lived in for 40 years. And on which I cobbled repairs over the years of side and shoulder handles, mounts of carrying strap (no rucksack straps) reglued its weather seal, rerivetted the neck tie-in fixing and added padding under the lining after using a trolley on cobbles in Whitby caused end pin fracture. I also dropped/fell over the case on 3 occasions with no injury to cello or case, incredibly. I did get sterling service out of it, but it was heavy and unwieldy. On that basis I was pretty critical in choosing a new one on a budget, needed as I'm getting older and crankier by the year. The swanky new lighter, and very manoeverable case (good handles and wheels) is well balanced with the cello in and the door open, good quality catches and hinges and seal, easy to use Velcro neck fixing and scroll loop. The rucksack straps are well made and mounts strong and I can't believe how easy to use and comfortable they are. I also realised that there are two heights of fixing allowing for short of taller cellists. As a smaller person I was relieved the cello case didn't hit me in the calves. I was also very pleased that the bow pockets are more secure than they look--cleverly designed to put the frog downwards, bowhair to the outsides, they hold the bows fairly flat to the lid so they can't flop around, even if the Velcro undoes. I did have to work it out for myself though. The accessories pocket comes Velcroed into the lid opposite the scroll, which leaves not much room to put more than rosin and a black hole in. However, I found it could be moved to stick onto the bottom edge of the padding behind the scroll, in a better space so you can use it more fully and manage strings, mute and a pencil and rubber too. And still room to stuff a duster behind the neck. Only 2 minor observations not really a fault of the case, but of my cello set up and eyesight... I have a Manson super spike in a smaller, late Victorian cello. The spike fully in sticks out a little more than most so it was touching the (well thought out) metal plate on the bottom of the case. This meant it wasn't fully suspended for protection, and would risk shocks travelling up to the cello via the button, which I have experienced before. It was easily solved by adding foam padding to lift it by 1.5 cms in the recessed padding at the bottom. It now sits well clear of the bottom and is more snug in the top and bottom padding recess. I'd recommend checking the fit of smaller cellos in the padding and adjusting with extra if needed. The only minor problem I have is seeing/finding the bow pockets bottoms with the case upright, even with good light, as the smart black lining and location hides them in the shadow. I expect I'll stick or stitch a bit of coloured ribbon to the edges of the pockets if I can't get used to them. So finally, thank you Bass Bags for a great case at an excellent price, delivered with the rest of my order on the day promised. Quality products with great service!
