IN it's favor, I will say the (removable) straps that come with the bag seem to be sturdy enough & have what appear to be strong carabiner-style attachments. I have not yet tried them out, but they are made of multiple layers of reinforced fabric (one layer is seat belt fabric) and that is nice. No matter how good a case is, if the straps are cheaply made, your instrument is not safe. So that's a point in their favor. Additionally, there are some cool (in theory) detachable pockets inside the case for the bow & numerous other things (the fact that the fairly large zipper on one has already lightly scuffed the bottom of my instrument must give pause as to the placement, but ok). HOWEVER. Firstly, there is very little padding in the places a nyckelharpa ACTUALLY SHOULD have support and extra care. The entire construction feels cheap--cheap fabric, cheap, soft 'foam' insulation with tons of bubbles and air pockets everywhere. There is one curved piece of plastic, that feels like it will shatter upon any impact, wrapped around a portion of the outside edge of the case and a strange, ill-fitting thin piece of plywood placed along the top in a zippered pocket. These two pieces are largely the only things 'protecting' the instrument from impact of any kind. Unfortunately, they are more likely to damage the instrument than to keep it safe. In addition to that, there are unfinished seams, loose threads, places where the foam sticks through and just a general lack of any kind of care. Lastly, my nyckelharpa measures 2 inches shorter than the longest measurement that the company says should fit in the bag, yet the tail piece is sticking into the (largely unpadded) end so far that it is bowing the case, even with the piece of plastic inside, which means both the tail piece and the neck can easily be broken or damaged. I understand for a company to make money they feel they must use cheap labor or perhaps machines that produce things quickly, but this is just ridiculous. It is poor craftsmanship, at best. If I am porting around an instrument worth multiple thousands of dollars, I would happily pay extra for a good case. This was one of only 3 options I found online & based on the company's reputation, despite the price, I thought I would take a chance. I will not be doing so again. Had I the time at my disposal, I could happily have paid the equivalent sum for an instrument case meant for a different instrument, sewn my own internal cushioning and reinforced everything. It would have been far better & safer than this. I do not have the luxury of time, as I will be heading for the airport in a matter of weeks & needed a new case to protect my instrument as the original case that was made for the instrument is falling apart and not very protective for traveling. This case is NOT that and I am honestly not sure what to do with it. I suppose I will have to try to buy from one of the two other makers/companies whose names I was given, hope it gets here in time for my flight and simply eat the money lost on this. A product that is advertised as a Nyckelharpa case (that should be made to protect an instrument, where even the cheapest one costs at least $1-2k) should be made with a nyckelharpa in mind--and it should be made well and with care (or at the very least, sturdily), even if you need to raise the cost. I'm not angry--it's what I get for purchasing online through a company I don't know, but I am nonetheless out a few hundred dollars and time that I cannot get back. Greatly disappointed. My loss.

Great friendly service, nyckelharpa case arrived quickly and is perfect for transporting it around, especially with the adjustable backstraps and great quality.

The bag is well made, and comes with sturdy straps, bow bag, tool bag and velcro attached padding that fit inside. The stiffeners in the side walls are removable. I had been warned by Bass Bags that the bag would be a little shorter than my nyckleharpa, so I put the harpa on my bandsaw and shortened it by an inch. Now my nyckleharpa fits the bag just fine. The width of the bag is generous, and this may cause issues on airlines. Will soon find out.

Hi Chris, Thank you for leaving us a review of our Nyckelharpa case. Let us know how you get on with taking it on board an aircraft. At least it will be a little lighter now you've lost an inch from the Nyckelharpa! All the best, David.

This is an excellent product that looks good and is both well made and practical. The use of padding as storage is very handy and the included bow bag is very useful. The ply reinforcing gives you a light-weight but protective case for your instrument.
