WHAT IS GALICIAN BEEF? At Basco, we only source the highest quality beef from Galicia in the Northwest of Spain. Our Galician beef fillet comes from retired dairy cows between 8 and 12 years old. This type of ageing allows more natural grass-fed marbling of the beef so that its comparable to the marbling of genetically optimised grain-fed US, Japanese and generic Wagyu beef. These older cows are chubbier animals, have a higher percentage fat content and as such have more marbling, giving the fillet a distinct and unique flavour. All our galician fillets are dry-aged for a minimum of 7 days. WHAT IS GALICIAN FILLET? Also known as Filet Mignon, Tenderloin, and the Eye Fillet, this is the most sought-after Galician beef cut, prized for its tender quality. Our Whole Galician fillet is lean, mean, and amazingly tender which will melt in the mouth. Low in fat, but rich in flavour when cooked, this is a Rolls Royce of Galician beef, that can be enjoyed by either cooking it as steaks or roasting as a whole piece. HOW TO COOK A GALICIAN FILLET? The perfect way to cook and serve a Galician Fillet Steak is to bring the fillet to room temperature-for at least 6 hours. Cut the fillet steak into 3-inch thick medallions and salt both sides of the steak with some rock salt 30 minutes before cooking. Cook the steak on charcoal barcecue for 4 minutes on each side, allow to rest for 2 minutes in a warm place. To serve the steak, slice thinly accross, season with salt flakes and serve on a warm plate or platter. HOW WILL I RECEIVE MY GALICIAN FILLET? You will receive one fresh whole Galician fillet vac pac delivered on ice pads. PLEASE NOTE THAT WEIGHTS CAN VARY FROM FILLET TO FILLET SO EXPECT A SLIGHT VARIATION ON THE WEIGHT OF YOUR GALICIAN STEAK.

Excellent value and quality. A small amount of trimming required, however the beef is very tender and flavourful.

As an ex butcher I can only say great value for money and exquisite quality. You will always get the tenderness from fillet steak BUT you rarely get the taste with this Spanish fillet it’s all there. Highly recommended oh and don’t forget the first class service and package. I’m on my second and will keep buying. What about a change from the dried up turkey go for a full fillet, finished off with some blackfoot and machego cheese.

Ordered a complete fillet steak, which the web site says already frozen it came next day but was fully defrosted not frozen, as we are over 70 years old and you are not supposed to re freeze something that’s been frozen and defrosted we cooked half of the 2.6kilo fillet and froze it and gave the rest away so it could be used straight away. I email BASCO using the contact page then because I didn’t get a reply email them again next day asking if it had been sent fresh or frozen and what advice could they give me. Still waiting for a reply from them some 4 days later. Poor customer service, very disappointed that I basically wasted my money and wouldn’t recommend this company. To be fair the beef fillet looked good and the young couple we gave half too said it tasted nice. Update on above I have just received a email saying they did reply to my first email and that the fillet wasn’t sent out frozen but fresh. I have check my spam/junk box and can’t find anything from them but I will give them the benefit of doubt and have changed my star rating for them. It’s true as they state I could have phone them but having spent hours onto other companies customer service lines I used their contact email to try to get a answer. The couple I gave have the fillet to say the meat was very nice and tasty, they had it for a dinner and then sandwiches with what was left. BASCO web site stated that the fillet was frozen and no where did it say otherwise if I had know they sent it out fresh I wouldn’t have given £30 worth of meat away. But they do seem to be a very good company and I accept what they say.

Dear Stuart, Sorry the hear about your experience. Our whole fillet is sent fresh and not frozen, with plenty of date on the vac pac, so we are sorry to hear you thought it had defrosted in transit but that is not the case. As for your email enquiry, I can confirm we received your email on Wednesday 28th October at 17:28 and one of our colleagues responded 41 minutes later at 18:09 confirming the fillet was sent fresh. If our reply wasn’t read on ended in the wrong folder, our customer services team, who are available from Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 16:30 would have been more than happy to clarify your query on the fillet at a grab of a phone. As for the quality of our fillet, this is something that we are very proud of, we are constantly receiving glowing 5 star reviews and the fact that the young couple you gave the fillet to said it was nice, should assure that we only work with quality products. If you do wish to consider us again, please contact us directly and a member of our team will gladly offer you some kind of compensation as a gesture of goodwill for the inconvenience caused. In addition, one of our team members will give you a call tomorrow to confirm on all this and forward you our reply. Kind Regards Basco
