WHAT ARE PUNTILLITAS? Our puntillitas, also known as chipirones or baby squid are a very popular ingredient in Southern Spanish cuisine. They are also called chopitos depending where you are. HOW DO I PREPARE PUNTILLITAS? They tend to be very small, so the best way of serving them is to coat them in harina de freir, a special Spanish frying flour and quickly fry them until golden brown. Serve with fresh lemon and a very cold beer! Be sure to check them and de-quill appropriately! They arrive as a frozen block which requires defrosting. Then they will require cleaning and debeaking with a sharp knife. HOW MANY PUNTILLITAS DO I GET? Although our puntillitas are sourced from Sanlucar's fish and seafood market, they are caught in the Eastern Central Atlantic Ocean. Whole and head on, they are individually quick frozen on the boats to ensure their freshness and packaged in 500g packs. Each puntillita measures around 5-12cm in length. HOW WILL I RECEIVE MY PUNTILLITAS SQUID? You will receive one frozen pack of puntillitas delivered on ice pads. If you are not using the squid straight away, store in the freezer. If you are, then you will need to thaw it in the fridge for at least 24 hours before cooking. PLEASE NOTE THAT WEIGHTS CAN VARY FROM BOX TO BOX, SO EXPECT A SLIGHT VARIATION ON THE NUMBER OF PUNTILLITAS YOUR GET.

They arrived fantastically well packed in polystyrene cool box. They were as fresh as just caught. I cooked them following the instructions: coated in flour and fried. Absolutely delicious.

Where do I start? Having lived in Gran Canaria for 18 years where I discovered Puntillas, they very quickly became my favourite tapas and I'd been know to eat them on a daily basis. Since my return to England 12 years ago, it's the one thing I've missed the most and have longed to experience the sweet, unique flavour that only Puntillas seem to possess. Dont get me wrong, 8 am a massive fish lover. Vevery kind from Mackrek, trout and sea bass to langustines, oysters and crab, but Puntillas have that amazing flavour, unique to Puntillas , and once tried, NEVER forgotten. After receiving my order which was delivered as promised, I defrosted a handful, tossed them in seasoned flour and deep fried then to perfection. One bite and I was back outside my favourite beach tapas bar , sitting opposite my Dad, my dog sat patiently awaiting his share of my feast, (a very lucky pooch, as I must really love him to spare any for him), and wondering if life could possibly get any better. So thank you Basco for making it possible to savour this splendid speciality in the comfort of my own home. I'll be ordering these little delights on a monthly basis and can be 5transported back in time any time I choose. Mucho graçias yo estoy muy feliz gracias a ti.

This was a great success! Easy to prepare (defrost, rinse, pull out the little hard bits, dry). And super tasty deep-fried. This time we used a mix of olive and sunflower oil, as we had no veg oil. We coated them in plain flour with some salt, pepper and paprika before frying in batches for barely a minute. One pack makes a generous portion for 6 or so people. Good with allioli sauce and a squirt of lemon!

Sweet and tender small baby squid. They come in a 1kilo block so you have to use all at once. Other than that. Perfectly delicious and as expected.
