“I recently decided to return to using a safety razor after over 40 years using cartridge razors, mainly to reduce my "plastic footprint" but also due to the cost of Gillette Fusion etc. blades. I used the P1R8 with one of the Dorco blades included. Both "shaves" left me with multiple cuts and really quite a lot of bleeding (enough not to want to be seen in public). OK, maybe I made novice mistakes - except, I then bought a Muhle R89 which I have now used daily for the past week (I had to wait for the P1R8 cuts to heal) with only one very minor nick and very acceptable smooth results. I'd recommend avoiding the P1R8 if you are starting out with safety razors. The Muhle is only a few quid more expensive and, in my hands at least, a much easier razor to use.”
