We had an amazing time at Xcaret. Lots to do for all age groups. Everywhere was easily accessible and well signposted. They use a clever colour coded route system and have plenty of maps enroute which ensures that you can always find all exhibits and attractions. The show at the end was informative as well as entertaining although after a full day exploring the Eco park we were all exhausted by the time it ended.

We were picked up and taken to Xcaret for a full day including the evening show and lunch. Xcaret (Actually pronounced Ish-caret it turns out!) is hard to describe because there is so much there and we could easily have spent a second day there because there is no way we'd have fit in the optional activities as well as seeing the whole place and watching the shows with a Dolphin swim or Ocean Floor walk. The first area was an Aviary (they breed numerous endangered species as part of their conservation efforts) with an amazing array of birds in a beautiful lush jungle setting. There are Jaguars and Pumas, Butterflies, Tapirs and lots of other local wildlife on display. We swam a long stream from one end of Xcaret to the other (you can get lifejackets and flippers) and this was lovely as the water is fresh and clear and you go through various natural caves etc but never in a way that made us claustrophobic or nervous. It's more relaxing and you go at your own pace with plenty of stopping points if you are tired. At the start you can padlock your possessions in a bag which will meet you at the other end so you don't have to worry about being without wallets, towels, suncream etc. We had lunch at a beautiful carribbean buffet overlooking the bay where all the additonal activities take place (they offer lots). We wondered through the caves, the aquarium and spent ages admiring the incredible sea turtles they rescue and re-release. There are various shows throughout the day but it all culminates in a fantastic 90 minute spectacular at 7pm where they go through the entire history of the area with dancers and singers and you see and incredible display of fireball hockey (I can't explain it better than that). The only tip would be to buy the natural sunscreen and mossie spray as we got sunburned and bitten due to being a bit careless!
