Scientists believe this is due to long-term memory being stored in different areas of the brain. In contrast, the formation of new memories relies heavily on the hippocampus, which is the first area of the brain to show symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.Visual prompts such as these cards are exceptionally effective at stimulating older memories in people with Alzheimer's or dementia. They can also help promote communication, either in individuals or in groups; and with 26 different cards in each edition, they can be used again & again!

Brilliant selection of cards with plenty of information on the reverse side for conversation starters. One thing I was particularly pleased with was that the cards are subtle, nothing on them or the box that mentions Alzheimer’s disease or anything that could pose as upsetting or belittling. Endless hours of fun going through these. Seeing my nans face light up and talk about things in such detail when normal daily topics don’t interest her at all. It’s just priceless.

These are brilliant. The granddaughter (in her early 30s) could really relate to her grandfather (in his late 70s and the person with dementia). I enjoyed the cards too and will get the 1960s cards.
