Our Chatterbox Cards 1940s include 26 large picture cards with everyday items from the relevant decade; from mangels to music, from romance to rationing.Each version contains 26 large themed pictures cards relevant to that decadeImages have been carefully researched by asking over 120 people aged over 65These cards provide mental stimulation for the elderly, whilst also encouraging conversation & story sharing. They can be used to help improve communication in older relatives or loved ones, or in Alzheimer's groups or care homes.What's on the cards?Each card consists of the following:Large high-quality picture covering one side of the cardBackground information regarding the picture on the reverseConversational prompt questions, also located on the reverseWhat we like about this productMost forms of dementia, but especially Alzheimer's, cause severe problems with short-term memory & cognitive function.However many older memories remain intact even in stage 3 of Alzheimer's Disease. Scientists believe this is due to long-term memory being stored in different areas of the brain. In contrast, the formation of new memories relies heavily on the hippocampus, which is the first area of the brain to show symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.Visual prompts such as these cards are exceptionally effective at stimulating older memories in people with Alzheimer's or dementia.They can also help promote communication, either in individuals or in groups; and with 26 different cards in each edition, they can be used again & again!

“I can see why they are called chatterbox cards the residents were I work couldn't stop talking about their childhoods etc laughing and joking about what fashions were on trend and what they wore and food they ate we had a lovely afternoon reminiscing I came home from work that day really uplifted the residents I do activities with have different forms of dementia and that afternoon was wonderful because it was like having tea with your friends it was like a switch had been turned on excellent product”

“My 101 year old mum has loved looking at these cards, she's 101 with dementia and it was lovely to see her laughing at some of the pictures. Also good that she could hold them herself as she has limited dexterity. I will be looking to buy more.”

“Bought for relative aged 97 with dementia, poor sight and poor hearing. She was delighted with the cards. Big enough for her to see and nice and sturdy. “I discovered Chatterbox prompt cards by chance at an Action on Hearing Loss meeting where the facilitator used a box of cards to break the ice. I realised the Chatterbox series would be useful among people living with dementia and thereforeign purchased a box to give to the staff of a care home where my wife is a resident. The staff thought they are a great idea in that environment.”
