“We live about a mile from a paddle-only lake, so we needed a way to get our tandem kayak there without loading the boat onto a vehicle, then driving-parking-unloading and repeating the process to get home. We looked at a number of options, and the Rambo trailer seemed the best solution for our needs. We already own two e-bikes (not Rambos) and knew going in that we'd have to adapt the trailer hitch to make the trailer work for us. Rambo requires the use of their Extra Large Luggage Rack with this trailer, but that wasn't an option for us as our bikes came with integral rear racks welded to the frame. I'm a former machinist, so it wasn't too difficult to fabricate a mounting plate from 3/8-inch 6061 aluminum flat stock, and in my opinion it's an improvement over the janky hitch mount on the Rambo rack. The trailer itself seems like a good value and should stand up to the rigors of its intended use, though we're not hunters and can't speak to how it will perform in that environment. In my current occupation, I work on bikes and e-bikes every day, so I have some minor criticisms of the trailer's design and construction that may not be relevant to those of you who aren't from a cycling background.
Pros:
• Wide, large-volume tires roll easily over rough terrain
• Nominally intended for boats up to 10 feet, but we carry a 13'6" tandem kayak with no problem
• All fasteners are pre-assembled (nuts-bolts-washers) so you don't have to hunt through a pile of parts to figure out what goes where
Cons:
• Tiny illustrations in the assembly instructions that practically require a magnifying glass to decipher
• The use of Imperial-dimensioned hardware, when virtually all bicycles are assembled with Metric fasteners; I shouldn't need a separate set of tools for the bike and the trailer.
• Janky attachment design for the interface between the hitch and Rambo rack; take a look at the photos here: https://www.rambobikes.com/products/additional-hitch-for-aluminum-bike-hand-cart”
“I have a Hobie Outback which is 12ft long. They specify 10ft max but appears a 12ft would work???? I wish the ad had more info such as max load and dimensions”
