The instrument arrived in a timely manner and was undamaged.

The service was great! I ordered an instrument that was “in stock” and it arrived on the day that was originally promised. I was able to track it and knew exactly where it was and what was going on with it.

Wessex’s Piccolo Trombone is by far the best Piccolo Trombone that is buyable. The slide quality is very good and is able to play any tune you throw at it. The intonation is very spot on as well, considering that there is no tuning slide. It is a shame that their is no 6th or 7th position, As a low C is only playable by underblowing and bending a Db, and don’t even think about a low B natural. Overall, this is the best Piccolo Trombone on the market.

Jonathan and Leanne were great. My recent purchase had been damaged in shipping and they were quick to respond with a replacement. Great customer service.

Hello! It is quite lovely, a very nice display case. We aren't sure what to do with the flat oval metal piece. The trombone has an air leak, which is unfortunate. We plan to have our experienced horn repair person evaluate the specifics. Please let us know if you have any suggestions. Thank you, The above message received a reply but for some reason a message was not able to be sent to you. The flat metal piece is not a part of the trombone but rather looks like logo/sticker of sorts. The instrument likely needs to be replaced as it does not play effectively with the air leak, please send information on method of having it replaced. Thank you, Monica Mulholland

Buyers should be aware that the thumb key is NOT adustible. The supplied mouthpiece does not fit the horn (wobbles in the receiver). The receiver is American (Morse) taper. The valves are stiff. Other than that it plays ok. Not the best effort from a good company. If a tuba/euphonium company is going to offer a french horn they should at least get someone around who knows horns, or maybe just forget it.

The third valve would not come up after it was pressed down and the second partial (concert F) was more than a quarter tone sharp. The 4th and 5th partials were markedly flat. It was a completely unplayable instrument.

great instrument overall only complaint is the tuning. the instrument plays well in tune in hot weather but in the cold it plays very flat and the tuning slide doesn't go in far enough to compensate. Also a few minor manufacturing defects like smudges on the levers but overall good horn.

My instrument arrived with one stuck slide and a second valve cap that did not screw down completely. This did not interfere with its function. I used the DHL label that was supplied by you and returned it the first week of August 2022. It is now the end of August and I am awaiting a refund. Also, I had originally ordered a baritone. I changed the order promptly to a euphonium but received messages that the baritone would also be sent. This was fixed in time but the fact that the first order wasn’t completely cancelled did cause some concern and a few extra emails.

I purchased the Chief mouthpiece as a backup in case of an accidental drop occuring to my original mouthpiece. I'm not impressed with the silver plating on the mouthpiece. The brass is showing through the silver. A second silver plating would have perhaps been sufficient. I feel the quality control of manufacturing in the Chinese plant needs attention.

It sounds. It sound good to me, but I was playing while listening so I don't know how it sounds to other people. It comes with medium and big bore attachements and mouthpieces, that was unexpected and possitive. First problem is that it is so thinly made that I was afraid it may break at any moment, anywhere Then the valves looked cheap, I was afraid of them failing any time. Worse problem though it that it is a copy of the Holton TR395 superbone, including what for me is the worse defect: you can not really tighten enough the valve block against the bell. One part gets screwed on the other but the bell weight pushes in the opening direction. How strongly can you tighten it? How many times before it gets damaged? All in all, return before the 2 week period was over, money back without any problem, I only lost the edlivery part as clearly indicated in the webpage.

The instrument was well made And had a nice case. It would have been good value, but: I could not get the notes to sound clearly. I am used to the French Horn embouchour. I checked for mechanical problems and for water blockage, but could find nothing wrong.

Denis Marclay Music

This instrument was a great disappointment. The mouthpiece had scratches and notches on the rim. It was a clear production error. There were also some marks on the trombone's bell, and the quarter valve was sometimes stuck. The purchase was canceled and the instrument was returned. So, I did not go so far as to try out the instrument. What I am most disappointed with is the lack of control on this instrument. Wessex claims that they check all instruments carefully before sending to the customer. That is clearly not the case, and here Wessex must get much better, or withdraw its promises. All contact went through James Garney. He is the Showroom Manager / Customer Services Advisor at Wessex. Throughout the process, he has shown great understanding and a top service attitude. I have nothing to complain about regarding this part of the trade. Unfortunately, this is not the first time I have had a bad experience with Wessex. In February 2014, I bought an Eb-tuba Champion from Wessex. There were many faults on this, including broken threads on the 4th valve. Wessex, by Jonathan Hodgetts, promised one thing and another, even that they would repair the instrument the next time they came to Norway, but nothing was done. I still dread every time I lubricate the 4th valve. I bought my Wessex Dolce through the supplier in Norway - BrassNor. This is a solid company where the owner has both knowledge and understanding of service. This instrument works quite well. If one is to be perceived as a serious player, then there must be quality and full control at all levels. Wessex is not there at the moment.

Several issues not expected on your "flagship" euphonium model. 1) No 4th valve lock down to keep from bending valve stem when storing in case. I ordered one from Willson which Matt Walters at Dillon Music will install when it arrives. 2) Interchangeable Mouthpiece shank size receiver inserts good idea, but should be tested in the instrument before shipping. I changed out the large shank with the medium shank (Euro shank) insert supplied and could not get the Euro one back out. The innermost diameter of the insert was too large and when threaded in to place caused it to get stuck. (Was not cross-threaded) Used a towel to cover the jaws of a vice grip pliers to unscrew and remove the insert and have reinstalled the large shank receiver which I am using now. 3) Water / condensation leakage which I originally thought was from not having a moisture trap on valve bottoms was actually from the main tuning slide water key. The spring on the water key may be too weak to keep from opening when horn is up against your body. Will replace spring with stronger one to see if that fixes the problem. Instrument is enjoyable to play and I am still evaluating the intonation. I wanted to compare to my Willson 2900s which is why I tried to use the Euro receiver. I shared these issues with James Garney who has ordered a replacement euro shank receiver for me. These appear to be QC issues to me which after owning one of your Dolce' models (which has a lot of nice features) in the past I did not expect to experience on a "hand made" model. The above are the reasons for the 3 rating.

Overall I think this instrument is an amazing Horn for the price. However I’ve found what sounds like an air leak coming from the fourth valve and I have yet to locate the source in my practice. Overall a minor detail but, it has been giving me issues.

This is the most essential bit of kit and I was glad to have one supplied with my Dolce euphonium . Old geezers like me dread giving the appearance of incontinence with little dribbles on the trousers when you stand up! The old one became tired of spring clip and started to fall off to a loud clang in a rehearsal. The new one is a fraction too long in the tube and impossible to fit; the old one was a pain to refit but would go on and stay on in the end. I suspect manufacturing tolerances of both gutter and euphonium are enough to explain this as a few mm would be enough and I can see my new one is a little longer (or the holes are in a different position). Suggest a QC stage is added of fitting a few samples of gutter to a few Dolce to keep this under control.
