“I bought the Harcostar 227L Water Butt Barrel and stand, together with the Gutter Mate Diverter, which I knew provided excellent filtration of leaves etc., as we had this at our previous address. The delivery of the items was seamless and I followed the instructional video and diagram for the installation of the Gutter Mate to the letter. However, the Gutter Mate simply didn't work, so I forwarded the enclosed photo, with several others, to show that the installation was in accordance with the instructions. My thoughts were that it simply didn't work because the inlet pipe (1 inch in diameter) started at the high water level and was above it, so the water didn't flow. The response I got back was to raise the level of Gutter Mate Diverter by at least half an inch. Because of my theory, I raised it by an inch and it worked perfectly. Also, the water stops filling up at the level of the pipe, so the butt does not overflow. I have advised them (if my theory is correct) that they should point out to future customers, in the Gutter Mate instructions, that any water butt with an inlet pipe above the high water level may need the Gutter Mate to be raised to the top level of the inlet pipe, to ensure a problem-free installation. Whilst this was an issue, I have still given a 5-star rating (no 4.5 ratings available), as the delivery, telephone and email response times from Water Butts Direct were very good and the Harcostar Water Butt is solid and sturdy, but whilst the Gutter Mate Diverter and Filter system is excellent, the instructions (may) need to have a caveat with them.”
