hi Had severe toothache for 5 days My dentist who i usually go with have just gone private phoned around all dentists in Taunton and surrounding area as i do not drive to try and find a NHS dentist and no one for love nor money are not taking on any more NHS patience I went back to my old dentist which cost me £255 phoned and explained to these people if they could help towards cost not all but some this was there reply after paying in for 10 years plus !!!!!!!!!!! In relation to your recent dental claim we are unfortunately unable to process this as the treatment carried out is shown as private treatment which is not covered on your policy as the terms & conditions state: “You cannot claim for any privately charged treatment undertaken or charges incurred on a private basis in conjunction with or alternative to your NHS treatment if you have the NHS Patient Plan. This includes treatment by a private hygienist working in your NHS dentist’s practice. We would advise that you ask your dentist about your treatment needs and charges before proceeding with the treatment as you cannot claim for any costs that are outside the benefits listed in the English NHS bands 1, 2 and/or 3. If you live in or are treated in Northern Ireland or Scotland, you will be reimbursed for your treatment up to the English NHS banding limits.” I hope this helps but please feel free to contact me again should you have any further queries & if you would like to leave a comment in regards to the service you have received please do so here:

I’ve been paying in this for years and now my claims are being refused- so I’m feeling totally ripped off! Not good. Why the sudden refusals ? No communication to say anything different- so I should have at least a years refund on my premiums! Not fit for purpose- feeling cheated and very angry!😡 Christine Nash

Never received policy documents, was unaware that would not receive pay out for ongoing condition that began prior to policy so was therefore paying £25 a month for my partner and I for no reason. I believe those payments should be refunded but that has fallen on deaf ears

Policy Details: I am covered under the Protego Dental Plan, initially provided by a different organization. My policy is based on the NHS scale of dental charges, with an annual maximum benefit of £500. Recent Claim Issue: On March 16 2024, I visited my dentist in the UK for a checkup, cleaning with the hygienist, and x-rays. The total cost was £300. Unfortunately, my claim was declined because my treatment was private and not NHS! Lack of Communication: Throughout my membership, I have not received any communication from the provider regarding my policy or updates. The Protego website provides no information regarding policy, coverage or upgrade advice. My recent telephone communication with a male operator proved negative. He did not want to explain or guide me regarding my current policy, available options, etc. He stated that my claim was unsuccessful because my cover was for NHS, and my recent treatments were private! At no point did he offer to discuss the issue further, even though I was open to considering changes to my policy if I knew how to go about it, given the total absence of communication for years.

These people are fraud and thieves.. they never pay you they always have excuses.. ooh this is not NHS why would someone go pay for a policy in the beginning they will tell you it's private and NHS and when you claim it's not private it's so confusing .. first it's not possible to get emergency for NHS You have to wait for long time . They are so frustrating ..I would not advise anyone to join this .. find a private policy which includes NHS otherwise there is no point joining this ppl ..

I’m not happy about the charges as they do not cover everything and are outdated. Everything has increased and so this service is not accurate. Also it is most difficult to apply for your refund

This treatment was done by an N.H.S dentist & charged N.H.S prices , your policy states that bridges are included in the refunding as a band 3 , this was not private & I'm very dissapointed . If you were to inquire, I'm 100% sure my dentist will tell you the same .

Each time I put a claim in I am told it cannot be paid as it is private. It’s a waste of money.

Awful service when claiming for a dental checkup. They refused to pay my 1st receipt as it wasn’t the exact amount for a checkup as I had bought dental sticks after the check up. I had to re request an invoice from my dentist. It took over 4 weeks to process the claim after 3 emails backwards and forwards.

I am expressing my deep disappointment of the refusal to cover the £250 cost of the treatment that has placed an unexpected and burdensome financial strain on me, particularly as a student already grappling with managing expenses. When I enrolled in your insurance plan, I did so with the belief that it would offer assistance in covering essential dental expenses, ensuring I could afford necessary treatments. However, I was dismayed to discover that white fillings are not covered under Nhs costs, a fact that was not adequately communicated to me by my dentist or your policy beforehand, leaving me fully responsible for the entire expense. Therefore, I terminated my subscription with your company, as it fails to serve my needs as initially intended.
